Here's a fun fact for you: I'm sure that most of you have heard of Memebox (Korean beauty box company extraordinaire) by now, but did you know that they recently launched an exclusive web store for customers in the USA? The warehouse for the USA shop is also in the USA, which means fast and cheap shipping for my fellow country(wo)men. Aww yeah!
I know a lot of us tend to think of skincare when we think of Korean beauty products, but there is actually a huge selection of awesome makeup to be had as well. Memebox asked me if I would collaborate with them and pick 10 of my favorite makeup bits and bobs from the USA shop to share with you, and to make things more fun for everyone, they've put all of my picks on super-mega sale this week. Not exciting enough for you? Well in addition to the sale, one lucky reader will win an ENTIRE SET of my picks! Memebox to the Meme-max! Let me present to you ... my HAUL OF FAME!
For my "Haul Of Fame", I aimed to choose products that I tried/liked in the past and that fit in with my basic makeup purchasing criteria:
- Products should be versatile
- Products should be affordable
- Products should easy to use
- Products should be FUN!
The result? Ten unique products that can be used to create a comprehensive look and/or a basic makeup bag. My hope is that my Haul Of Fame makeup bag would be able to get you through a wide variety of makeup-wearing situations whilst putting a smile on your face as you use them!
BASE: Liole Dollish Veil Vita BB Cream in Gorgeous Purple - 15% off -> $13.60 [Reg. price: $16]
I actually reviewed Lioele Dollish Veil ages and ages ago (link), back when my blog had a different name and my photographs were ... er ... not as good. My photography skills may have improved somewhat, but my opinion on this product remains the same: It's a a wonderful base makeup product that can be used on its own or layered under another BB cream. The coverage is light to moderate—I actually think this is more akin to the CC creams of today than most BB creams. The "purple" variety is meant to brighten skin and cancel out sallow undertones. As you can see above this starts out as whitish-purple color, but blends flawlessly into skin. It also has a bit of SPF—the more the better, I say!
CONCEALER: Lioele Under the Eye Light Concealer - 20% off -> $10.72 [Reg. price: $13.40]
I don't know about you, but I have TERRIBLE dark circles all the time. Even when I get enough sleep. Thanks, allergies and genetics! Therefore some sort of under-eye concealer is an absolute must-have in my makeup bag. Lioele Under the Eye Light Concealer is awesome because has a light texture (no caking/settling into fine lines around the eyes) and a light pink-biege tone that conceals dark circles in a natural-looking way. It comes with a brush-type tip so you don't even need an extra makeup brush—just dab on and lightly blend with your ring finger.
BLUSH: It's Skin Babyface Petit Blusher in 03 Romantic Rose - 25% off -> $6.80 [Reg. price: $8]
Everybody needs a blush or two in their makeup bag, right? It's Skin Babyface Petit Blusher comes in four shades, but I went for 03 (Romantic Rose) because pretty, peachy pinks are versatile and pretty much always in style. Aside from being easy to incorporate into a variety of looks, this blush is awesome because it comes in the cutest packaging ever AND it's travel-friendly. Beauty products with an adorable, kawaii feel aren't always travel-friendly (I'm looking at you, Appletox Honey Cream), but this little guy is compact, snaps firmly closed and comes with a little powder puff that tucks neatly into the case. Squee!
BROWS: It's Skin Babyface Natural Eyebrow in 04 Grey Brown - 35% off -> $3 [Reg. price: $4]
I don't like to fuss with my brows too much, but they look kind of rough and patchy if I don't do anything, so brow pencils like It's Skin Babyface Natural Eyebrow really come in handy. I love this product because (a) of the included spoolie (very handy!) and (b) shade 04/Grey Brown is perfect for ashy brunettes like me. Black and even dark pencils usually look WAY too dark and look weird. Clown-like, even. Not what I'm going for in my everyday look. This is the perfect balance between dark and light, plus the pencil doesn't rub off easily, AND it's an all-in-one brow solution that you can tuck in any purse or pocket. Score!
EYES: Missha Signature Velvet Art Shadow Quad - 45% off -> $12.65 [Reg. price: $23]
Every makeup bag needs some neutral eyeshadows. Even if you're like me and are all about colors colors colors, it's good to have a few basic shades on hand to add highlights and dimension where needed.
I was really attracted to Missha Signature Velvet Art Shadow quad in No. 2 Peach Combination because the shades included are both versatile and fun—you've got your basic champagne and brown, but also a little pop of peach and gold sparkle. Fabulous! All four shades are quite pigmented and glide on easily, even without primer. (See swatches below!)
EYES: Lioele Color Eye Shadow in 15 Bordeaux Wine - 10% off -> $5.40 [Reg. price: $6]
I wanted to include a purple-ish/wine-colored eyeshadow in my makeup because it feels seasonally relevant to me, and it's a good way to include a bit of color in your look while still being workplace-appropriate. Lioele Color Eye Shadow singles are quite pigmented, and this particular shade (15/Bordeaux Wine) has a bit of shimmer to it as well. Gorgeous!
Swatches of the Lioele & Missha shadows:
All swatched over bare skin. No primer. Wow!
EYES: Lioele Dollish Ink Eyeliner in 01 Strong Black - 20% off -> $8 [Reg. price: $10]
I'm open to trying new things, but I just can't go without a good black liquid eyeliner in my makeup bag. Gels and pencils are nice, but the precision of liquid is where it's at for me. Lioele Dollish Ink Eyeliner is awesome because it's water-resistant but not totally impossible to remove—check out what happened when I ran my swatch under the tap:
It didn't budge! That said, if I were to rub vigorously on the wet swatch it would ball up and flake off without too much trouble. I appreciate liners that won't melt all over my face if it randomly starts to rain, but I also hate having to scrub my eyeballs to remove them, so this is really the best of both worlds.
EYES: Missha The Style Mascara 4D - 20% off -> $4 [Reg. price: $5]
And what eye look would be complete without a bit of mascara? Missha The Style Mascara 4D is basic formula, great for providing length and definition without clumps. It's also waterproof, so that aforementioned surprise rainstorm scenario won't be a problem.
LIPS: Lioele Essential Donut Glo-Stick in 05 Blossom Red - 20% off -> $8.80 [Reg. price: $11]
This Glo-stick won't go neon on you, but it will provide a lovely, natural flush of color to your lips. Everybody needs a tinted lip balm or gloss in their makeup arsenal. But to quote my boyfriend Stan, "Why is this called donut?" Here, I'll show you:
This tinted balm has a creamy, moisturizing core. Great for people with chronically chapped lips!
LIPS: It's Skin Babyface Aqua Gel Tint in 01 Cherry - 35% off -> $5.85 [Reg. price: $9]
Is it just me or are cherry lips really in right now? It's Skin Babyface Aqua Gel Tint is a gel-like, fruity-scented tint with a doefoot applicator that can be dabbed on lightly for a slight flush of color or built on for full-on cherry-red fierceness. This tint leaves a bit of a stain behind, but isn't as ridiculously drying as some of the other tints on the market can be. Combine it with the Lioele Essential Donut Glo-Stick for lips that shine and won't feel parched!
