Happy Halloween, everybody! Hope you're doing something fun. We're celebrating in the not-quite-traditional fashion of eating dumplings and watching stupid movies ... yum? Anyway, it's the end of the month so it's time for another USE IT OR LOSE IT!
Haven't seen my Use It Or Lose It
series before? Each month I select a few beauty/personal care items
I've been hoarding
in my stash, and vow to either use them up and review them or throw them
away! I chose five products this time—all samples, mostly foils. Let us see if any of this sampling results in a full-sized purchase, shall we?
Holika Holika Good Cera Super Cream (around $20 for 60ml on eBay)
I got a few samples of this as part of the Eopenmarket Lucky Box. This is a ceramide cream that promises to lock in moisture for days—whoa. I ended up liking this sample a lot more than I thought I would because while the cream is definitely rich, it's not too oily or greasy and sinks into the skin very quickly. It smells a little like baby wipe juice to my nose, which isn't really good or bad? All in all, not a bad product.
Would I buy it? Yes.
Pangea Organics Japanese Matcha Tea with Acai & Goji Berry Facial Mask ($45 for 4fl oz)
I got this in the March Vegan Cuts box and thought I had used it, but a rummage through my sample pile revealed that that was not the case! This is a chunky-style mud mask. Sounds appetizing, eh? (Here's a horrifying Instagram picture if you want to see what I mean by chunky.) It has a refreshing, herbal scent and made my skin feel nice after I used it, but I'm not sure it was miraculous enough to merit the $45 price tag.
Would I buy it? No.
Number 4™ Reconstructing Masque ($58 for 5.1oz)This is a hair mask, in case y'all weren't sure what kind of "masque" this is. I got it from Birchbox a while back. They seem to really love sending out Number 4™ hair products, which I tend to like (but not really love). I enjoy the scent of this line—it smells sort of sweet and like amber to me? In terms of performance, this hair mask does fine—it's basically just an ultra-rich conditioner. Nice but a little overpriced, in my opinion.
Would I buy it? Maybe if I had tons of extra Birchbox points, but otherwise, nah.
Skin79 Purple Super Plus BB Cream SPF40 PA+++ (around $25 for 40g on eBay)
I also got this in the Eopenmarket Lucky Box. This BB cream is definitely best suited to dry skin types—it's not super "dewy" or disco ball shiny, but it's kind of thick and creamy and gives very decent coverage. To my eye this appears a bit darker than the Skin79 Hot Pink BB cream, and is waaaaaay darker than the green one, which is the closest match to my skin tone. TLDR: This is too dark for me.
Would I buy it? No, but only because it's too dark. I actually like the formula a lot.
Bodycology Charmed Apple Nourishing Body Cream ($3.99 for 4oz)
Not sure where I got this sample—mailbox freebie maybe? This is a body moisturizer infused with shea butter and other skin-lovin' goodness. I'm not crazy about the scent—it smells kind of like artificial cucumbers mixed with green apple skins? Not terrible, but not really my thing.
Would I buy it? No.
Definitely not a food.
That's it for this month's UIOLI ... not my most successful one, but Good Cera Super Cream was a decent discovery, so I can't get too upset about it.
