Hip-hip-hooray, it's Beauty Box 5's birthday! Who wants to see what was in their third anniversary box?
New to Beauty Box Five? It's is a monthly subscription service for beauty and personal care
Each month, subscribers get 4-5 beauty products from a wide variety of
categories—think haircare, skincare, makeup, etc. BB5

per month. Prices

for an additional $3 monthly shipping charge. You can read more about
the particulars in their FAQ and check out my reviews of past boxes here.
The theme of this month's box is "Hooray!"
Well whaddya know, it's my third birthday this month too! (As in slightly more than three decades... sigh.)
GlamGlow Youthmud Tingleexfoliate Treatment (5ml/0.17oz sample, approximate value $6.90):
Normally I'm not crazy about packet samples, but GlamGlow is quite expensive, so even a little speck of this stuff is sort of valuable. For those unfamiliar, this is a mud mask designed to make skin glow. I'm going to be completely honest here and say that I probably wouldn't buy this just because it's so crazily expensive, but having it show up in a beauty box is a nice treat.
Absolute New York Absolute Love Lip Balm in Bubble Gum (Full size/12g, value $2.50):
I think these were sent to subscribers in assorted flavors. I got Bubble Gum, which is extremely reminiscent of the massive hunks of Bazooka I used to gnaw on as a kid. This balm looks pink in the jar but doesn't really have much pigment once applied to skin—I'm willing to forgive that since it smells like a food I want to eat.
Marsk Mineral Eyeshadow in Vanilla Frosting (Full size/1.2g, value $24.00):
A frosting-themed eyeshadow in a birthday box? How wonderfully appropriate! This is an iridescent white shadow with a bit of sparkle. It's not super-pigmented on bare skin, but over a glitter fixative it pops like CRAZY (see swatch below). This would probably be most suitable as a browbone highlight, but I applied it all over my lids when I got it because I wanted to look like a birthday cake, apparently.
Avon Big Color Eye Pencil in Sunkissed (Full size/1.6g, value $3.49):
A chubby eye crayon in a gorgeous coppery color. I was kind of like "meh" when I first took this out of the box, but I was pleasantly surprised by how incredibly creamy and pigmented it turned out to be. The only downside is that I can't seem to find it on the Avon website—Discontinued? Seasonal item only? I don't know, but I would totes like to try more shades. According to the info card, customers received assorted shades, so maybe you'll see some different ones popping up in other unboxing posts?

Revlon Colorstay Longwear Nail Enamel in 140/Fall Mood (Full size/11.7ml, value $3.79):
Good ol' Revlon Colorstay, staple of the drugstore beauty scene. Customers received one of various shades of this polish. I think these are decent enough nail polishes, but I have to say, I'm not feeling the bronze-ness of "Fall Mood" right now. I'm in a "please make it Spring already" mood!
In addition to all the products, there was also a $20 off coupon code for YourMinerals.com. I won't be counting that towards the box total because it's a promo code, but it's nice to have as an extra.
Total box value: Approximately $40.68
I was glad to see a few bits of makeup pop up in this month's box—those sorts of things feel more "fun" to me than shampoo and nail files and the like. I would have liked to see more spring-y colors though—nothing wrong with coppery shades, but as I'm sitting here staring at the snow I would LOVE something to remind me that spring is indeed coming.
My favorite item from the box was the Marsk eyeshadow. I will say this though—I did get a lot of fallout when I tried using it with regular primer, so I highly recommend applying it over a sticky base to get the most out of it. Once you do, BLING! It kind of reminds me of the snow. Hmm, maybe snow isn't so bad after all.
