Calling all tea fans! I have something yummy to share with you today: The Plum Deluxe Tea of the Month Club.

Plum Deluxe Tea of the Month Club

Unfamiliar with Plum Deluxe? They're a lifestyle website based out of Portland, Oregon that also specializes in hand-blended, small-batch teas. All of their tea products are organic, non-GMO, Fair Trade, and free of chemical flavorings. You can purchase their teas on an individual basis if you like, but they also have a Tea of the Month club that allows you to try a new, limited edition blend! There are currently two subscription options:
  • One Tea: For $10 per month, receive one 1oz special tea blend (makes about 15-20 cups) and other benefits
  • Two Teas: For $18 pr month, receive two 1oz special tea blends (makes about 30-40 cups) and other benefits
Both subscription options are billed in three month increments and include shipping within the United States. The "other benefits" subscribers receive include things like free shipping on tea orders, a 15% savings on tea accessories, access to a private tea lover's Facebook group, special recipes/pairing guides and more. It's also worth noting that you have the option to receive only caffeine-free teas when you sign up—I know some folks are sensitive to the stuff. At this time Plum Deluxe Tea Club only ships to the United States and Canada—Canadians can sign up for single tea plan for US $17 per month.

I was provided with two of Plum Deluxe's tea blends for review: One of their regular catalog blends and one of their special monthly blends. Let's have a look!

Plum Deluxe Tea Oregon Breakfast Black Tea

Oregon Breakfast Black Tea ($7.00 per ounce):
This is part of the Plum Deluxe regular catalog, and it's absolutely delicious. I'm a really big fan of having robust black teas with breakfast, and this one has a really nice sweet/nutty flavor thanks to the inclusion of orange peel and hazelnut essence. It's lovely on its own or mixed with almond milk and sweetener and provides a nice (but not overwhelming) caffeine buzz. Whee!

Plum Deluxe Tea Full Moon Chai

Full Moon Chai (Monthly blend):
This caffeine-free chai is a special, limited-edition blend that was sent out to Tea Club subscribers. A tea inspired by the supermoon... interesting theme. This chai was sweet and surprisingly fruity, but not too tart or acidic. The tag says it "pairs with bonfires/fireplaces & candlelit festivities" and I think that's apt. It's cozy, comforting, warming. Stan said this was his favorite of the two teas by a hair—it's a tough call for me, because this one is also very delicious.

Overall thoughts:

Based off these two tea, I think Plum Deluxe does a really good job of creating unique (and tasty!) blends. Black breakfast tea, for example, is a pretty common concept, but their version tastes unique. I love it. As for the tea subscription, I really like the idea of getting a unique blend every month. I noticed in their shop that they allow you to purchase a couple of random samples of their teas if you're not sure what to get—I'd love to see something like that in subscription form too. Smaller samples of a couple of different teas, I mean. But I'm a sucker for variety.

  3. I am reading the ingredients in those teas and they sound absolutely yummy! I love tea also but have so much. I think once I finish what I have, I will look into this brand!

  4. Most Tea or Coffee Subscriptions I've seen can be very expensive so this is pretty cheap. I love tea and drink it all the time, definitely going to have to look into this.

  6. I know what you mean! Coffee and tea drinking isn't the cheapest habit, alas.

  7. I have a lot of tea too. I always end up with extra because I'll dabble and try new kinds, and some get used up more quickly than others... the teas I got from Plum Deluxe are nearly gone now though! Yum.

  8. Hopefully! We just launched our spring chai - blackberry rose - but we are all big chai fans so we'll keep working on fresh recipes. :)

  13. Pretty much any kind, I've never met a Chai I didn't like! But I guess if I had to pick, the spicier the better for me.

  14. Ha - that would make a good t-shirt or mug. "Tea-d up all day and night." :)

  16. I'm not crazy about rooibos on its own (like you said, meh) but it works for me in blends. The chai really was delicious, though I wouldn't have minded a teensy bit of caffeine!
