I'm sure most of you have heard about Beauty Box 5 and their monthly beauty subscription box by now, but did you know that they occasionally release limited edition, buy-as-you-like themed boxes? Well if you didn't before, you do now. Today I'll be taking a look into their LE "Rockin' Beauty" box, which promised to "kick up the volume on your cosmetics!" BOOM!
Much like their subscription boxes, Beauty Box 5's limited edition boxes ship to most of the United States and Canada. The Rockin' Beauty box sold for $39 and promised at least $100 worth of makeup goodies. It's sold out now, but you can see the limited edition boxes BB5 currently has on offer here!
Sounds good... I wish I could find a beauty box that would make me rock harder than my favorite oboe solo though. Where's all the oboe love?
So it looks like we have five products, all makeup, all full-sized. Yay!
Bellapierre Cosmetics Mineral Lipstick in Burlesque (0.123oz, value $19.99):
This is a semi-matte, fuchsia-pink lipstick. It's a little on the bright side, but not so much that you couldn't wear it to the supermarket without getting stared at (which is where I like to ROCK the most!) I was pleasantly surprised by this... it has a nice vanilla scent, isn't drying, and lasts a few hours on me. The only downside is that it isn't transfer-proof, so no kissin' or eatin' popsicles if you want it to last.
LashEm False Lashes (1 pair, value $5.00):
False lashes! Makes perfect sense in a beauty box that's all about glamming things up. These were WAY too long for my eye, so I ended up cutting one of the lashes in half and using the halves on the outer part of my eyes. I think it looked decent (and if you want to judge for yourself, see the pictures at the end of the post). I'm not sure what else to say about these lashes... they don't look super-natural, but I don't think they're supposed to? And they were perfectly flexible/comfortable to wear.
Lancôme Le Stylo Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner in Noir Intense (0.01oz, value $27.00):
A mechanical-style pencil eyeliner. Black eyeliner is a must for any rockin' look, yes? It's hard for me to get really excited about black pencil liner at this point in my makeup-wearing career, but this stuff certainly gets the job done. It applies smoothly, and I found that it lasted well on me, but I have a feeling that it would turn into a smudgefest on oilier lids. Just a guess though.
Tarina Tarantino Eye Dream Hyperlight (0.13oz, value $22):
The product description on Beauty.com calls this "a magic wand that creates a liquid spotlight." Which is just... whoa. Magic wand? Liquid spotlight? What is this, an underwater magic show? In any case, it's a liquid luminizer that's dispensed through a twist-up brush tip.
Click click click. The product looks super-pink it it's unblended state, but I found that it blends in nicely with my skintone, and doesn't look cakey or weird (or glittery, blah) in my undereye zone. Success!
Tarina Tarantino Dollskin Cream Blush/Sparklicity in Mr. Pink (0.16oz/0.23oz, value $29):
A combo cream blush and sparkly highlighting powder. Can I take a moment and say that the compact this comes in is very pretty? Because I like it. As for the product itself... the cream blush is pretty nice. It doesn't feel greasy or gritty like some creams can, and "Mr. Pink" creates a natural, pretty pink flush if you don't go overboard with the application.
The highlighting powder (which is called "Sparklicity") is... interesting. The product description describes the effects of Sparklicity as a "subtle glisten", but I'm gonna tell you a secret: It's straight-up glittery. Brought back memories of getting ready for the seventh grade semi-formal dance. Can you feel the Sparklicity-motion?
OK, so here are all the products on my face. I decided to include a "before" picture because somehow it seems more impressive that way, lol.
Note the arrow pointing to the "subtle glisten" of Sparklicity. So, so subtle!
Other things I used on my face, in case anyone is curious:
- Missha Perfect Cover #13
- Neutrogena Shine Control Powder
- Eyeko Skinny Liquid Liner
- A couple shades from the Coastal Scents Revealed 2 palette (do they have names?)
- Etude House Drawing Eyebrow - Gray Brown
- Benefit Rollerlash (meh)
Total box value: Approximately $102.99
I think the Rockin' Beauty box certainly delivered on the promised value. I was also pleased to see most of a "look" represented in this box... no doubling up on eyeshadows or other foolishness. My personal favorites of the bunch were the Eye Hyperlight (liquid spotlight!) and lipstick. I kind of wanted to love the blush/highlight compact, but I think it has too much Sparklicity for everyday wear, even for me. But for that once-in-a-lifetime rockin' glam eve, maybe a little Sparklicity is exactly what you need.
