The results of my Memebox Easter Egg Hunt

Happy belated Easter! Last weekend, K-beauty e-tailer Memebox did a fun little promotion in celebration of the holiday: An easter egg hunt! They hid digital "eggs" around various parts of their site, the idea being that you would purchase an egg (or multiple eggs) and get a mystery item worth more than the price of the egg. Kind of a build-your-own-Memebox situation. Most of the eggs were priced in the $5-$7 range, and there was one $20 "golden egg" that supposedly contained an item worth up to $100 too. Curiosity got the better of me so I ended up grabbing a few... want to see what I got?

First things first: I opted not to purchase the golden egg. Twenty bucks is just too rich for my blood when it comes to a single mystery item that I may or may not like, y'know? Instead I got the three eggs pictured above: Pink Polka Dot ($5), Horizontal Striped ($6), and Yellow Polka Dot ($7). One at each cheap-ish price point. Behold my results:

There were also some samples in the box. (And another item I ordered, but I'll write a proper review of that some other time.) Memebox did include a packing slip with my order for the first time ever, but there was no indication of which mystery item came from which egg, so I'm basing my egg-y guesses off the original item values and other unboxings I've seen on Instagram.

ITEM/MEMEBOX VALUE: Tony Moly Petit Bunny Gloss Bar #08 ($9)

SUSPECTED EGG: Pink Polka Dot ($5)

Ah, the Tony Moly Petit Bunny Gloss Bars. There are probably one of the most ubiquitous items in internet K-beauty land, but you know what? I've never actually owned one, and it certainly is an appropriate item to include in an Easter promotion. I've had my eye on these gloss bars for a long time, but I always end up taking them out of my cart at the last minute because I'm cheap, so I'm glad to own one now. This is essentially just a fruity-smelling tinted lip balm. Don't be put off by the color, it actually turns into a pretty, natural pink on your skin (see swatch below).

ITEM/MEMEBOX VALUE: Peripera Peri's Tint Jelly #1 - Cherry Stick ($12)

SUSPECTED EGG: Yellow Polka Dot ($7)

Hey, it's another tinted lip balm! The Memebox Easter Egg hunt should be renamed the Memebox Tinted Lip Balm Hunt. Anyway, this is a jelly-type (translucent) lip tint... except it's honestly not all that tinted. More of a lightly tinted balm/shimmer than full-on tint, really. Swatches:

The brighter of the two swatches is the TonyMoly Gloss Bar (not bad!) and the nearly invisible one is the Peripera tint. Not the most impressive product ever in terms of color payoff, but I actually do like the texture a lot so I'll keep using it as a balm.

ITEM/MEMEBOX VALUE: Skin Food Wildberry Milk Cleansing Foam Moist ($9.50)

SUSPECTED EGG: Horizontal Striped ($6)

I'm kind of picky when it comes to cleansers, so this isn't the most exciting score for me personally. I have nothing against Skinfood as a brand, it's just not the type of product I want to get a full-sized tube of randomly, you know? The good news is that if I decide not to use it, it will probably be easy to swap.

TOTAL SPENT ON MYSTERY EGGS: $18.00

TOTAL VALUE OF MYSTERY EGGS: $30.50

Overall impressions:
I wasn't that excited by my Memebox Easter Egg Hunt haul. They did deliver on their promise to send items that were worth more than the cost of the eggs, but getting two tinted lip balms is sort of repetitive and cream cleansers are sort of a hard sell for me, so... yeah. The good news is that I do actually like the balms I got, so it wasn't a total waste of cash.

The Memebox Easter Egg hunt is over now, but if you want to find out about promotions of this type in the future, I recommend subscribing to their newsletter or following them on Facebook.

What do you think of the items I got in my Memebox Easter Egg Hunt? If you picked up some eggs, did you like what you got?

  1. Ah, I totally missed this. I probably would have purchased an egg or two. The Tony Moly bunny gloss is super cute but I agree with you, overall I think they could have done better.

  2. There were a bunch of eggs that I didn't get, so who knows, maybe some of them were awesome. It all boils down to personal preferences too... I would much rather get hand cream than random cleansers, just as an example.

  3. Oh this sounds fun but I agree, these are not the most thrilling surprises in the world. I do like the Tony Moly tint and the packaging is rather festive for Easter!

  4. Thrilling... no. Getting surprises is fun though. I do like the bunny gloss, though my boyfriend thinks it looks more like a llama and has started referring to it as the "llamalips" - lol!
