There are two types of products I find myself more and more interested in as summer approaches: Sunscreen (duh) and deodorant. I don't think I'm the stinkiest person in the world, but I'd rather smell like flowers or something than sweat, you know? Today I'll be taking a look at a new deodorant product that's all-natural and comes in a unique format: Pacifica's Underarm Deodorant Wipes.
"Pacifica Underarm Deodorant Wipes are an innovative formula utilizing natural ingredients with effective odor control and protection that can last for hours. Designed to stop the malodors under your arms and remove the excess perspiration. Use as a deodorant under your arms in the morning. Take with you for reapplication as needed. Great for times when showering is not an option, after yoga, camping trips, and times of high stress. This is an everyday solution to deodorizing while leaving a subtle scent that blends with everything else you layer on. A distinctive blend of natural essential oils and coconut milk, these odor-neutralizing, aluminum-free wipes keep you feeling fresh and fabulous all day long. Simply wipe on as an underarm deodorant, or throw into bag for an on-the-go refresher. Perfect for spring and summer, each bag contains 30 biodegradable natural wipes infused with ingredients your skin will love. Subtly scented to blend with everything else you layer on. Formulated without: animal ingredients (including carmine, beeswax and lanolin), animal testing. FD&C colors, mineral oil, parabens, phthalates, petroleum, propylene glycol, SLS, gluten, peanut oil and other ingredients you don't want on your skin."
I feel like this would be a good time to point out the difference between deodorant and antiperspirant. Deodorants are designed to mask body odor and/or eliminate bacteria in the underarm area, whereas antiperspirants actually block sweat. Pacifica's wipes fall into the deodorant (scent masking/odor-eating) category. A lot of what you find in mainstream drugstores is actually antiperspirant (or a deodorant/antiperspirant combo), so these wipes may take a bit of adjusting to if you're used to underarm products that prevent you from sweating as much as you would naturally.
water, alcohol, zeolites, saccharomyces ferment filtrate, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) extract, crambe abyssinica seed oil, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, cocos nucifera (coconut) milk, hydrogenated castor oil, limonene, glycerin, salvia officinalis (sage) leaf extract, parfum (all natural with essential oils)
Wondering what "zeolites" are? It's a mineral with adsorptive properties. That's adsorptive, not absorptive. I'm not a scientist but I believe it has antimicrobial properties... less bacteria = potentially less underarm stink. Yay! Speaking of ingredients, this product is vegan-friendly and cruelty-free, just like the rest of Pacifica's product line.
Pacifica's Underarm Deodorant Wipes cost $9 for a pack of 30, and are exclusive to Ulta.
Like most of Pacifica's wipe products, these don't have a rippled texture or anything like that—just your standard softness. Each wipe measures 14.6cm x 20cm.
I found the Pacifica Deodorant Wipes to be surprisingly effective. I tend to alternate between antiperspirants and plain deodorants depending on my activities and the weather, but with some deodorants I find that I have to reapply often, even when I'm not being especially active. The Pacifica wipes made my armpits smell non-disgusting for 8+ hours when I was just chilling out and doing stuff at my desk—a whole work day! Impressive. When I was doing more strenuous work I found that I needed to reapply after a few hours—not that I smelled totally disgusting or anything, but the freshness wore off more quickly, if that makes sense.
Speaking of freshness, these wipes smell a lot like coconut milk. Not your typical deodorant scent, but I like it. The smell is a bit strong when you first apply them, but after about 10 minutes it dies down and sort of blends into the background. Also: Your armpits feel a bit damp after first applying them (they are wipes, after all) but after a few minutes the residue dries down and is more comfortable on the skin.
Overall, I like the Pacifica Deodorant Wipes. I don't think they'll satisfy consumers who are used to heavy-duty antiperspirants that leave you dry as a bone, but if you're looking for something that's super-portable and with the purpose of making you smell less nasty, these do the trick nicely. Especially if you're a fan of coconut scents, mmm.
