It shouldn't surprise anyone that this month's Beauty Box 5 theme is Bloom: Tis the season for blooming, after all. Or maybe that theme would be better suited to May? (April showers, May flowers?) Either way the April BB5 is here, and it's filled with several spring-appropriate goodies.
Unfamiliar with Beauty Box Five? It's is a subscription service for sampling beauty and personal care products.
Each month, subscribers get 4-5 beauty products from a wide variety of
categories—think haircare, skincare, makeup, etc. BB5
$12 per month if you subscribe on a monthly basis, but they offer discounts on lengthier plans. An
annual subscription costs $99 for example, which works out to a mere $8.25
per month. Prices
include shipping to the USA lower 48, and Canadians can subscribe too
for an additional $3 monthly shipping charge. You can read more about
the particulars in their FAQ and check out my reviews of past boxes here.
I don't think all the petals are having fun just yet in my neck of the woods, but soon. So, so soon.
Dancin' Goat Hula Bliss Body Lotion (2oz, approximate value $4.50):
This is a light body lotion made with goat's milk. Dancin' all the way to great skin? It has a lovely fresh lavender and eucalyptus scent. I like it a lot actually, and the formula seems moisturizing without being overly heavy or greasy. Great for warmer weather!
Incoco Nail Polish Applique Set - Blushing Beauty Design (1 set, value $8.99):
According to Incoco's website, this is one of their new designs. Woo! If you're not familiar with the lingo of this product, nail polish applique = polish strips (which are a bit more natural-looking that plastic stickers, for example). Now here's the question: Will I be able to apply them on myself in a way that doesn't look messy or weird? I don't know, but that's my problem. In any case, the pattern is positively perfect for spring.
First Aid Beauty Facial Cleanser (3x 2ml packets, approximate value $0.72):
I keep hearing people rave about First Aid Beauty, so I've been a bit curious to try their products. Cleanser isn't usually at the top of my list of things to sample because I'm kind of picky in that department. FAB's FAQ lists of the pH of this cleanser at 6.5, which isn't too bad—the one I currently use is a bit more acidic (5.5.) and that seems to work well for me, but I don't think this will cause my skin to freak out. And can I mention that I like that Beauty Box 5 sent more than one sample? I hate getting a single lonely packet sample in beauty boxes, but there are enough here to try it three times at least.
Lasting Smiles Passionfruit Mango Organic Lip Balm (0.15oz/full-sized tube, value $4.99):
Organic lip balm with a scrumptious tropical fruit scent. The delicious fragrance and nice texture aren't all that makes this balm special though—each balm purchase helps cleft lip and palate surgeries for children around the world. Also, the ingredients come from sustainable sources and fair trade small farming cooperatives. Cool!
Style Essentials TwinGloss (9ml, value $2.50):
OK, I'm not sure where to start with this item. It's a lip gloss, but...brown. WHY BROWN?! Actually it's technically clear and brown, which is where the inexplicably creepy name "TwinGloss" comes from. Supposedly the two twin colors "mix complimentary shades" every time they use them... but since when are brown and clear complimentary shades? Maybe when they're seeping from a flesh wound? Here's a closer look:
Sorry, but I don't want to put that on my mouth. There's good news though: I've been peeking at BB5 unboxings on Instagram and it seems like a lot of folks got pink. Hooray for sweet, safe pink!
Total box value: Approximately $21.70
I thought this was a great box, other than the disturbing ooze that is TwinGloss. The Dancin' Goat body lotion smells great, the Incoco polish strips are adorable, the Lasting Smiles balm is useful and sustainable, and the First Aid Beauty samples are handy for testing purposes if nothing else. Four out of five isn't bad, right? I'm particularly fond of the nail polish strips because the design is just so darn cute.

What do you think of my April Beauty Box 5? Am I overreacting to the brown TwinGloss?
