So a while back Stan helped me review a unique shaving subscription box: Wet Shave Club. They've been sending out shaving goodies since 2013, but this month they finally launched a special version of their monthly box geared towards ladies—woo! I'm one of those. So how does the Ladies' Box differ from the original version of Wet Shave Club's box, you might be wondering? Read on to find out!
Not familiar with Wet Shave Club? It's a monthly subscription box service geared towards wet shaving enthusiasts (and newbies!) Subscribers get a selection of razor blades, soaps, lotions and whatnot each month, as well as a premium double-edge razor and brush in the first month. Their subscription prices are as follows:
- $29 per month on a month-to-month plan
- $26 per month on a prepaid 3-month plan
- $24 per month on a prepaid 6-month plan
- $22 per month on a prepaid 12-month plan
All prices include shipping within the United States. Wet Shave Club does ship internationally—add on $5.99 per month for Canadian addresses and $13.99 for the rest of the world.
I'll be unboxing the just-launched Ladies' Box today. The overall contents of the ladies' box are similar to what one would get in the classic Wet Shave Club box (now called the men's box), except featuring softer, more feminine scents in the shaving products. The ladies' razor is a bit shorter and heavier which allows users to apply less pressure when using on the legs and glide it over sensitive areas like your ankles and knees. Oh, and the handle of the razor I got was pink. Not sure if that'll be the case forever, but it's cute.
Much like the men's box, the ladies' box included a little guide to wet shaving:
This advice seems most applicable to folks shaving their faces, which not all ladies do. I'd love to see an info card with suggestions tailored to shaving your legs! Not a must, but it would be helpful.
WET SHAVE CLUB LADIES' RAZOR HANDLE:
As promised, a hefty little razor with a sturdy pink handle. It also has the Wet Shave Club logo etched onto it.
FYI, subscribers only get the razor handle in their first month's box. Not that that's bad—these things are clearly built to last. You just need to replace the blades periodically, and Wet Shave Club sends out new ones each month. Speaking of which....
TREET DOUBLE EDGE BLADES (11ct):
What would a wet shaving box be without blades? This box contains 11 blades. Wet Shave Club recommends replacing your blade every three days or so for the closest shave, so this is enough to last most people for a month.
SATIN TIP THE PUREST SHAVING BRUSH:
A super-soft shaving brush to help you lather up your soap. This brush is really, really soft—my boyfriend even commented on how much softer it was than the natural bristle wet shaving brush he has. This is another item you only get in the first month's box, as it will last for many, many uses.
STIRLING SOAP CO. BLACK CHERRY & STRAWBERRY BUBBLY SOAPS:
Two deliciously fruity-smelling soap pucks. These are a good shape for sticking into a soap dish or mug, then sticking your shaving brush in to work up a lather. These are old-school soaps made with beef tallow and a bunch of super-hydrating ingredients like glycerin, almond oil, lanolin, and coconut milk. Moisturizing soaps = great for shaving your legs.
WHOO'S SOAP STRAWBERRY CITRUS BODY FROSTING (2oz):
A thick (but not greasy) body butter with a refreshing strawberry scent. My legs always get really dry after I shave, so I definitely need something like this!
I'm really like the heft of the new ladies' razor, though I wish the handle was a bit less slippery. You can alleviate the slideyness by wrapping a bit of grip tape around it, but still, some texture would be helpful so you don't accidentally drop it and slice yourself. Still, it does provide a super close, smooth shave though, and that's the most important thing.
Scent isn't the most important thing to me when choosing which soapy products to shave my legs with, but I appreciate that there's now an option that doesn't smell like pine or straight-up Eau de Man. I have no idea what Wet Shave Club has planned for future months, but I'd love to see some floral or candy scents in there too! Just sayin'.
Wet shaving is obviously not the quickest way to shave your legs, but there's something oddly calming about the ritual. I know there are some ladies reading out there who have super-lengthy and elaborate skincare routines, so you know what I mean.
To sign up for Wet Shave Club, visit here and select your desired subscription length. They also have gift subscription options—perfect for Father's Day, a really belated (or early?) Mother's Day, or just because hairy legs.
What do you think of the Wet Shave Club Ladies' Box? Would you spend a little extra time shaving to get a closer shave?
