Unboxing | Target Beauty Box Summer 2015 (+ GIVEAWAY!)

Affiliate Links Bought It

I'm baaa-aaaaack! I don't know if anyone actually noticed that I've been on semi-hiatus these past couple of weeks, but the project that was sucking away all of my time is over in any case, so I'll be inundating your RSS feed readers with reviews again shortly. First up: The latest Target Beauty Box!

Target Beauty Box Summer 2015 womens box

New to the Target Beauty Box? It's a non-subscription, non-mystery, semi-seasonal box released at various price points depending on the contents. (You can read my reviews of past Target Beauty Boxes here.) The most expensive one so far cost $10 including shipping, but other previous editions have been priced at $5 and $7. This time Target released two boxes: A men's box priced at $5, and a women's box priced at $7 (which is what I'll be reviewing today). Both boxes are sold out now, but Target seems to be releasing a new one almost every season these days, so keep your eyes peeled for a new one around the end of summer/beginning of fall. (I also have an extra box to give away at the end of this post if you missed it, woo-hoo!)

Target Beauty Box Summer 2015 info card coupon

Every Target Beauty Box I've received to date has come with a $3 off $15+ Target Beauty purchase coupon attached to the info card, and this one was no exception. My only complaint about these coupons is that they usually have a very short expiration date—in this case, it's June 30th. I know they want to get people into the stores (or online) and shopping, but it would be nice to have at least a month to use it, y'know?

Anyway, end petty rant. Let's take a look at the actual beauty products!

SinfulColors Professional Nail Color in Sail La Vie

SinfulColors Professional Nail Color in Sail La Vie (Full sized bottle, value $1.99):
SinfulColors is a cheap brand, but I like it. Their polishes come in about eight million colors, and many of them suck less than other comparably-priced polish brands, so I think they're a great value for the money. I believe that customers received one of several shades at random in their boxes—I was lucky enough to get "Sail La Vie", which is a creamy cornflower blue, I guess? Very summery and unlike anything else I have in my collection right now. Love!

Olay Regenerist Luminous HydraSwirl Eye Cream

Olay Regenerist Luminous HydraSwirl Eye Cream (Full sized, value $23.99):
A luminizing eye cream. I actually wrote a blog post about this (and some other stuff in the Regenerist Luminous line) about a year ago, but I'll give you the short version here: This cream is luminous in the sense that it contains teensy weensy pearlescent pigments that reflect light away from the eye. Personally I don't think it had any longer-term brightening effects, but it doesn't get pilly under makeup and does make dark circles look significantly brighter, so this still gets the thumbs-up from me for daytime use. (There are better night creams out there for nighttime use though... this one isn't particularly rich.)

Fekkai Pré-Soleil Hair Radiance and Protection Mist sample

Fekkai Pré-Soleil Hair Radiance and Protection Mist (1.7oz sample, approximate value $6.80):
A shine-enhancing hair mist that supposedly protects hair from sun damage. I haven't tried this yet, but I like the idea of it... and when I spritzed a little on my hand, it smelled inoffensive. I'll give it a shot! By the way, I think Target Beauty Box customers received one of several Fekkai products at random, so if you're still waiting on your box, you may get something different.

Cutex Advanced Revival Nail Polish Remover Pads

Cutex Advanced Revival Nail Polish Remover Pads (3 pads, approximate value $1.20):
Individually wrapped nail polish remover pads that are infused with various botanical oils for nail protection. Each wipe is supposedly big enough to do all 10 fingers—yay! I like individually wrapped nail polish removal wipes like this better than the kind that come in little plastic tubs because they don't dry out as easily.

Revlon HD Lipstick

Revlon HD Lipstick in Gladiolus (Full size, value $7.99):
Highly pigmented lipstick with a surprisingly non-waxy texture.

Revlon HD Lipstick in Gladiolus

Gladiolus is a vibrant, blue-based red—perfect for my skintone! I've only worn it once so far but it seems to last fairly well. Not through a greasy meal, but normal sitting around and occasionally sipping water, yes. Hand swatch:

Question for my readers: Did any of you receive a color other than Gladiolus? All the unboxings I've seen so far contained this shade, but that could just be a coincidence.

Total value: Approximately $41.97

Overall impressions:
I thought Target did a great job with this beauty box.  There was a mixture of product categories, but they all managed to be complementary... I could easily see myself using the nail polish, lipstick, hair mist and eye cream at the same time. And of course the wipes are perfect for removing the polish! I also loved the color of the nail polish and lipstick I received this time, but maybe I just got lucky. In any case, this box was a superb value at $7, especially when you consider that the Revlon lipstick alone would have cost that much. Love love love!

Missed out on this box? Well you're in luck—I grabbed an extra to give away to a reader!

  4. I hadn't either. It doesn't have much of a scent, which is nice... hard for me to tell if it's really doing anything at this point though!

  5. I wish Target would get on the subscription beauty box train like Walmart. Except nicer than the Walmart beauty box. :P

  6. Yeah, that dark circle cream costs like 3x the cost of the box on its own! Such a good deal.

  7. I'm particularly interested in the $3 coupon. Ha!

  8. Haha! I'm happy about the coupon too, though I certainly wouldn't pay $7 for a box just to get a $3 coupon. It's a good coupon though - they also put a code on it so you can use it online!
