For someone who's really into food and drink, I can be awfully lazy about the preparation sometimes. I mean yes, I've cooked holiday dinners for 30 people before and attempted to make soy milk from scratch and all other sorts of time-intensive stuff, but sometimes I have days when I just want food to magically appear in front of me. Poof! I especially feel this way when it comes to my morning coffee. I am not a morning person. Making a drink that gives you energy when you have no energy? Tough, bro. So naturally when I heard that Gevalia was making a new Iced Coffee with Almond Milk drink, I got very, very excited. So excited that I actually e-mailed my boyfriend Stan to tell him about it in the middle of the day, to which he replied something along the lines of "WHERE DO I GET SOME NOW?!" We pretty much keep a dairy-free household, so finding a ready-made coffee drink with almond milk and delicious sweetness was pretty much the best thing ever.
I was lucky enough to be able to sample these new coffee drinks, so today I'll be sharing some basic info and my thoughts on them! Your future groggy self can thank me in advance.
Gevalia Iced Coffee with Almond Milk is available in three flavors: Caramel, Mocha, and Vanilla. All three flavors come in your choice of a 11.1 fl oz single-serving carton or 33.8 fl oz carton for sharing! Here are some nutritional facts:
- 170 calories per single serve carton or 130 calories per 8 fl oz serving
- 9g protein per single serve carton or 6g protein per 8 fl oz serving
- Good Source of Calcium, Vitamin A & E
- Made with real sugar
The amount of protein in these drinks is interesting—I feel like 9g is sort of a lot for an 11.1oz drink? They don't taste gritty or grainy though—shake before opening and they'll be nice and smooth.
One thing I really like about these is how portable they are. The 11.1oz size is small enough to toss in your bag without it weighing you down, but still enough to satisfy—and if you don't happen to finish it in one go, it has a resealable screw top.
Stan and I tossed some of the Gevalia Iced Coffee with Almond Milk drinks into our bag last weekend and headed off to the local park for some caffeinated relaxation... and of course I took pictures of him drinking. I'm a creep.
Aww yeah, refreshing.
Sassy! Even if picnicking in the park isn't your thing, Gevalia Iced Coffee with Almond Milk is still handy to have around. I for one am not always the most alert first thing in the morning, so having a pre-chilled, pre-mixed coffee drinking waiting for me in the fridge on a hot day is pretty much the best thing ever.
By the way—Gevalia Iced Coffee with Almond Milk tastes good when chilled and shaken thoroughly, but it tastes really good poured over a bit of ice. Just saying.
Speaking of tastes, here's what Stan and I thought of the individual flavors:
- Caramel: Probably the sweetest one. Very rich-tasting, almost like dessert! Stan said this was his favorite. (He also said Mocha was his favorite earlier in the day though, so take that with a grain of salt.)
- Mocha: Stan gulped this down before I got to try any, but this is what he had to say about it: "Really good. Tastes more like coffee than chocolate, but there's enough chocolate in there to taste it."
- Vanilla: I think this would be my go-to "everyday" choice out of the Gevalia Iced Coffee drinks. It's definitely sweet, but not cloyingly so, and the vanilla flavor is sort of neutral. If you really wanted to go all-out, you could maybe even try using it (or one of the other flavors) as creamer in brewed coffee—I'm drooling just thinking about it.
Another thing I really liked about these is how not bitter they tasted. I think everyone who's ever consumed coffee with regularity has probably tried a bitter cup or two in their day, but these just taste light and sweet. (Still very much like coffee though!)
In any case, I liked both of the flavors I tried enough to purchase them again—and Stan drank that mocha down right quick, so I think it's pretty safe to say that he didn't hate it. Next time I go on a road or train trip I'm going to grab some of these for my snack bag... they're shelf-stable, come in convenient (and difficult to break) Tetra-Paks, and taste good. What more could you want?
