One probably doesn't see "success" and "TV binge" written in the same sentence often, but hear me out. I feel like a lot of folks these days (myself included) get so distracted by their phones, e-mail, etc. that it's actually sort of rare to have a good old fashioned movie or TV marathon session. You know, the kind where you're really paying attention and will actually remember what you watched later. (I'm guilty of surfing the internet whilst casually watching far too often.)
TV marathons obviously aren't a necessity of life, but sometimes when life gets stressful or a little too harsh you need to unplug your brain a little bit and let someone else entertain you. That's what I think anyway, and holiday weekends are one of the best times to veg. Today I'll be sharing my tips for having an epic TV marathon—lord knows I need it!
TIP #1: MAKE SURE TO LAY IN PROVISIONS.
A girl's gotta eat! I like to snack a little bit while I'm eating—usually sour gummy candies or crunchy salty things like chips and popcorn. The real issue is making sure I eat an actual meal whilst engrossed in hours and hours of programming—this can be solved by making something in advance and sticking it in the fridge, or ordering takeout. I keep takeaway menus and the Seamless app on hand. I'm lazy, what can I say.
TIP #2: TELL PEOPLE WHAT YOU'RE DOING.
If you live with your family, a significant other or roommates, chances are they will want to bother you while you're in the midst of your much-needed veg-time. Telling them in advance that you want to chill and have some "me" time (or invite them to join in) won't guarantee that your fun remains uninterrupted, but it may prevent some confusion when you blatantly ignore your partner as they try to talk to you.
TIP #3: PICK A SHOW WITH MANY TO WATCH.There's no official rule as to what does and doesn't constitute a TV "marathon", but to me anything less than four episodes seems like casual viewing. YMMV depending on your tolerance of staring at screens. This is now easier than ever thanks to internet... and you don't even need to subscribe to a paid streaming service to enjoy past episodes of a lot of shows now. For example, NBC has a lot of recent episodes of their popular programs streaming for free that you can watch right on your computer! I spotted The Blacklist, Heroes Reborn, The Voice, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD. Chicago, Chicago, Chicago! As much as I love Chicago, I ended up starting in on Heroes Reborn instead.
I don't know how many of you watched the original Heroes series that started in 2006—it was one of those shows that started off strong in the first season then had a short second season because of the 2007 WGA strike. So it goes. It came back for two seasons after that though, which I did end up watching all four seasons in their entirety. So naturally I was excited when I saw that the series would be brought back in a way. (My boyfriend less so, but hey, more excuse to be antisocial and have some "me" time!)
TIP #4: CREATE A NEST.
When I watch TV, I like to be able to relax and lounge around on a pile of pillows. Basically, ultimate laziness. It can get quite cold in my apartment at times, so I have a Snuggie and several throw blankets lying around in case I need to increase my coziness level. The Snuggie has monkeys on it. It's pretty classy.
Speaking of classy Snuggies, I grabbed one to give away to a reader—yes, really. They don't seem to make the monkey one anymore, but blue plaid looked pretty good?
The guy on the box seems satisfied, anyway. Use it for TV marathoning, lounging, or just hiding your torso from the world in style!
