When it comes to beauty and grooming, there are certain things I'm weirdly lazy about. Like I'm totally willing to spend over half an hour most nights on my skincare routine, but combing out my hair on weekday morning? Eh. Or sometimes I'll spend 20 minutes on my eye makeup, but when it comes time to finish up the rest of my face... ehhhhhh. But if I had to pick one area in which I was consistently the laziest, it would have to be body hair removal. I kid you not, I sometimes go entire seasons without shaving. The thing is, I actually like the sensation of having soft, smooth legs—just not the ongoing process of achieving them. So I decided to try something a bit different (and more permanent) this winter: Silk'n Flash&Go.
Flash&Go uses Home Pulsed Light (HPL) technology, meaning it uses pulses of light to gradually reduce and disable hair growth.
Using the device is simple—the company recommends starting with clean, shaven skin so the light pulses can reach the root of the hair easily. (Waxing or plucking is not advisable, as that completely pulls out the root.) If you're treating yourself for the first time, it's a good idea to do a test pulse ahead of time to make sure it doesn't irritate your skin, but once you're ready to go, you can start pulsing at the lowest setting. Flash&Go has five energy levels, so once your skin tolerates the lower settings, well you can ramp up your treatment to the higher settings. Check the instructions for more specific instructions and make sure to read the safety guidelines before purchasing—Flash&Go works best for light-skinned people with brown hair and is not recommended for naturally dark or recently tanned skin.
Flash&Go is designed to work gradually over multiple treatments—they recommend following this treatment schedule as you get started:
- Treatments 1-4: Every other week
- Treatments 5-7: Every four weeks
- Treatments 8+: As needed until desired results are achieved
Results and the overall timeline will of course vary from person to person, but many users have reported noticeable results after three or four treatments.
The Flash&Go system comes with a removable lamp cartridge that works for 5000 pulses—that's enough for roughly 6-8 full-body treatments if you're using it everywhere (the device can be used all over your body and on the face from the cheekbones down). If you need more treatments, replacement cartridges are available for purchase from Bed Bath & Beyond and Kohl's and are easy to install!
I've only completed a couple of sessions with Flash&Go so far so it's too soon for proper before and after pictures, but so far it appears to be working—my leg hair already seems to be growing back at a diminished capacity, and I like the fact that it's not painful—my skin feels a little hot while I'm using the device, but not in an uncomfortable way. And I love the fact that in a couple of months my legs are going be smooth without having to do much to maintain them—yay!
I'm sharing this info now because Silk'n is running a special gift card and sweepstakes promotion over the holidays—so if you know someone who might like to receive Flash&Go as a gift (including yourself), now's a great time to grab it!
Taking advantage of the offer is easy:
- Purchase Silk'n Flash&Go at Bed Bath & Beyond or Kohl's in-store or online.
- Head on over to keepongifting.com to enter your details and upload a copy of your receipt.
- Receive a $25 gift card to the retailer of your choice. Bonus: You'll also be entered for a chance to win a trip for two to Aruba! Easy peasy.
The offer can be redeemed up to three times for a total of $75 in gift cards—so don't be shy about purchasing and uploading those receipts if you know a few people who would like Flash&Go.
If you choose to shop in-store instead of online, look for Flash&Go in the beauty section. Personally I shopped at Bed Bath & Beyond—the device was in a locked cabinet at my local store, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled in case it's inside the display instead of on top of it. (And of course you can always ask an employee for help finding it!)
What do you think of HPL technology for hair removal? Is Flash&Go on your wishlist for the holidays? Let me know in the comments!
