I think Shiro is sort of known for fandom-themed collections, but this batch takes it to a whole new level of delightful oddness. Five glosses featuring illustrations of Nic Cage in ladies' attire? Why?! From the Shiro website:
"On January 7th, 2014, Nicolas Cage turned 50 years old. In honor of this god among men walking for half a century on our unworthy earth, we have released five lip glosses. These are not representative of the exact five decades for which He has been alive, but rather five very distinctive eras in American history. Because it's funnier that way."
Aside from having a tantalizingly crazy theme, the colors of these glosses also seem quite appealing - I'm particularly fond of "Nic Cage Churning Butter One Crisp Thanksgiving Morn" and "Nic Cage Nibbling Petit Fours in a Posh Victorian Tearoom". At $8 for a 15mL tube (or $2 for a 1mL sample) the price is right too. Something to consider once my current spending ban is over...
What do you think of this collection? Is there such a thing as "too silly" as far as indie cosmetics collections are concerned?
I showed these to my husband (we're both big Nic Cage fans) and he was quite amused but slightly baffled by them. I think they're hilarious. The victorian one looks really pretty.
ReplyDeleteWell, I think you should get your husband to try some samples and then he'll be less baffled. :P In all seriousness though, I haven't tried any of Shiro's glosses yet but they get rave reviews on the internet, even before the whole Nic Cage thing.
ReplyDeletethat's hilarious! I've never seen anything like this before but then again, I have no idea what indie cosmetics are ;) I think they look really interesting and the names are funny! :)
ReplyDeleteIndie = just small, independent companies. A lot of times there will be collaborations... like in this case someone formulated the lip glosses and a different person made the illustrations. It makes for lots of fun themes.
ReplyDeleteNow that would be a funny gift to give.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to need a doge related item if they do fandoms or memes lol. These are so silly kekeke. I wonder what Nick Cage would think LOL
ReplyDeleteOMG This is absolutely hilarious like OMG
ReplyDeleteI think she did do a Doge-themed eyeshadow once, actually. It might have been limited edition though.
ReplyDeleteIt's the gift that keeps on giving...
ReplyDeleteYou should check out the rest of their site if you haven't already... they have some other amusing themes too
ReplyDeletelmao... seriously --> nicolas cage!!!??? ☺ but it looks pretty nice though ♥
ReplyDeleteHA!!! Anything goes with indie brands. I think this is one of the biggest selling points of indie brands. I find great humor with this!!! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletehahaha i must have these! my boyfriend has an angle similar to nicolas cage. he wont admit it but its true! he will hate me if i give him one of these :D :D :D
ReplyDeleteI *may* have bought some indie cosmetics in the past just because they were based on an awesome theme. Maybe. Thankfully they also turned out to be quite pigmented and nice too!
ReplyDeleteHaha, well then obviously he *needs* to see them!
ReplyDeleteThose are hilarious! I wish my sending ban didn't exist so I could get one. I love the flapper Nic Cage!

Everything about this is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI find this super awesome. I must be weird that way :P
ReplyDeleteWell, you're not alone. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't think these are limited edition, so if you're still craving some dainty Cage in a few months I think they'll still be available!
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I think I need to get at least one of these at some point. You know, to go with the Nic Cage perfume.
ReplyDeleteI think these are great-they're fun and it also helps that I'm a huge Nicolas Cage fan. Thanks for the 'find" :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you find them amusing too. :) Even aside from the Nic Cage thing they seem like really pretty colors, though I'm not sure the labels would go over so well with non-fans.
