Hello Pretty Bird! - A beauty and not-so-glamorous lifestyle blog: August 2013

Up, up and away!

So I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that I'm going on vacation for a week starting tomorrow. Want to guess where I'll be going? Here's a hint:

Time for more reviews of items from the haul vaults!

Today I'll be writing about some items from Innisfree's Green Tea skincare line. I purchased a sample kit from TesterKorea last month, so I've had a few weeks to size up several of their products and see how well they work in conjunction with each other. Curious? Keep reading!

Cheap Sasa.com Finds: Precious Beauty Lip Balm

I posted pics a couple weeks ago of my July Sasa.com haul, which included a bunch of unknown-to-me but super-duper-cheap skincare items. Today I'll be reviewing the Precious Beauty lip balms I got, which were not only cheap but also buy-one-get-one-free. I know nothing about this brand other than that it's Taiwanese and that it's cheap - anyone have further insight? In any case I'm a sucker for a good deal, especially when it's cheap and BOGO. These lip balms are still on sale until the end of August, so if you're interested after reading my review better stock up now!

NatureBox Subscription - July 2013 "Discovery Box" Review

It seems like there's a new subscription box every time I turn around. Whether you love food, jewelry, makeup or artisinal toys, there's a subscription out there for you. Personally I'm a fan of snacks, and while many of the snack subscription boxes out there are novel, I feel like few of them are "substantial", if that makes sense.

Enter NatureBox. Each month they send you a package of five (or more, depending on your subscription) full-size own-brand bagged snacks with multiple servings in each bag. Not only are their offerings substantial, but they're not terribly bad for you either. From NatureBox's website:

Each month, your box will include 15 to 20 servings across 5 different NatureBox snacks. We take pride in picking the healthiest and most delicious snacks for you to enjoy. You can trust that our products will be made from the most wholesome ingredients and will be minimally processed, if at all. Everything you eat from us will abide by our strict quality standards.

After trying (and liking) a free package of their Spiced Salsa Nut Mix, I decided to give the subscription a try. Keep reading for all the details!

Review: Lioele Dollish Veil Vita BB Cream (Gorgeous Purple)

Ah, Lioele. If you spend any amount of time reading up on Korean makeup brands, chances are you've heard of Lioele and their BB creams. I've tried a few of their popular products (namely Triple the Solution and Beyond the Solution BB creams), and while they are excellent products in terms of feel and coverage, they are way too dark for my ultra-pale self. Thankfully, there's Lioele's Dollish Veil Vita BB - it's got the same standard of quality as Lioele's other BB creams, with a lighter, more CC cream-like coverage.

3 Things That Don't Suck: Drugstore Anti-Acne Products

Affiliate Links Bought It

So today I'll be writing about something a little different: Rather than reviewing one product or some random stuff I've hauled, I'd like to talk about a few different things I use regularly that share something in common: They're anti-acne products that I think actually work! And these aren't obscure or expensive products either. All three of the things I'll be writing about today are relatively easy to find in American drugstore/mass-merchandisers and cost less than $10. If you're outside the US, iHerb carries all of these products and has reasonable international shipping rates.

Just a quick note to start: It can be a bit tricky to recommend anti-acne stuff, because everybody's skin is different and may not react the same way as someone else's to a product. Therefore, I strongly recommend doing a test patch whenever you try a new product to avoid a full-blown allergic reaction. Furthermore, I am not a doctor or dermatologist, so please know that these are just opinions based on my own experiences!

Now, onto the goodies...

Current fave: My Beauty Diary Strawberry Yogurt sheet mask

Riddle me this: What smells like strawberry candy and smoothes/cools your skin down in the summer heat?

That's right folks, it's time for another sheet mask review. I think My Beauty Diary sheet masks have been reviewed lots and lots out there in the blogosphere already, but I wanted to talk specifically about the Strawberry Yogurt variety because I love it and feel like it's one of those rare masks that actually does something beyond moisturizing. Onward!

HelloFlo Subscription Box Review (plus pics of the August 2013 box!)

OK, listen up: This review is for the ladies. Well, and for the gents who buy "time of the month" products for the ladies. If you're not in the market for feminine care stuff or feel squeamish about the topic, now's the time to run away!

Innisfree "It's Real" Sheet Mask Reviews: Gold Kiwi, Green Tea, Jeju Bija & Rose!

Affiliate Links Bought It

What an odd week this has been. My mother came for a visit - this is the first time that's happened since I moved to New York three years ago. Sounds exciting, right? Well, it would have been, except I spent the entire first two days of her trip...  wait for it... vomiting and sweating out a fever!

I won't get into the details, but I was SO SICK. I'm thinking it was food poisoning, maybe? In any case, our visit didn't go exactly as planned, but at least we got a chance to catch up and talk. We also had time for her to rummage through my massive drawer of skincare supplies, so I introduced her to one of my new favorite beauty products, Innisfree sheet masks! And that's what today's post is about. I bought a whole bunch of them from RoseRoseShop (aka rubyruby76 on eBay) last month and have had a chance to test out all of the varieties I purchased, so I figured I'd share my thoughts.

July Haul-O-Rama Reviews Part 3: SaSa!

Finally, the last of my July shopping spoils... a mask-licious order from SaSa.com.

I feel like SaSa is pretty well-known in the world of online cosmetics shopping, but just in case you've stumbled upon this and have never heard of them before: SaSa is a chain of retail stores based in Hong Kong that sells a variety of popular Asian cosmetics/personal care brands. They also have an enormous number of items available for purchase on their website, plus frequent free international shipping promotions, making it an economical choice for buying cosmetics from overseas. SaSa.com is also a good source for finding Asia-only releases from popular western brands.

Anyhoo, here's what I got this time. Lots of buy-one-get-one-free specials:

July Haul-O-Rama Reviews Part 2: TesterKorea!

More from the world of my online shopping hauls... TesterKorea.com!

In case you've never heard of them before, TesterKorea is an online store specializing in Korean beauty/personal care products. They have a pretty wide range of full-sized products, but one of the best things about this site is the large number of items they offer in sample/travel sizes - for cheap too! Behold my goodies:

This was my first time ordering from TesterKorea, but I had read some good reviews of them on various blogs/forums so I figured I'd give them a shot. Here's a list of what I got:

July Haul-O-Rama Reviews Part 1: RoseRoseShop!

Greetings all:

It's been a couple weeks since my last post, oops! I got sort of busy at the end of last month and was too brain-dead to do anything other than watch TV marathon-style in my free time. Let's just say I've been getting my money's worth out of my DramaFever subscription lately. :)

I've been meaning to post about a few cosmetics orders I received in mid/late-July, so I guess better late than never! Today I'll just be giving a brief overview of my shopping experiences, but I will definitely be reviewing some of the individual products later on. I just need to give myself time to test them all.

Anyway, first up... RoseRoseShop.com. RoseRoseShop is the web store for highly reputable eBay seller rubyruby76, who is based in South Korea. Unsurprisingly, they sell mostly Korean products. Rubyruby76 generally has good prices on items in their eBay store, but it's worth checking out the website as well because they often have sales/specials. An overview of my haul:
