Who wants to see some swatches of a brand new eyeshadow palette? Today I'll be sharing the Pony X Memebox Shine Easy Glam Season 2 Palette, which is the second eyeshadow palette collaboration between Pony and the ever-growing Memebox own-brand makeup line.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Pony, she's a well-known beauty Korean YouTuber with a series called "Pony's Beauty Diary". The videos are subtitled in English, so be sure to check them out even if you don't speak Korean!

Here's what the outer box of the Pony X Memebox Shine Easy Glam Season 2 Palette looks like:

Will using this palette make me feel like I'm floating in space? Or do the sparkles in the shadows represent the stars? Deep thoughts.

The first thing I noticed about this palette is the size—it's quite a bit smaller than the first Pony X Memebox palette. The product description clearly lists the dimensions (6cm X 10.5cm) but apparently I didn't read it carefully enough. Here's a side-by-side shot for comparison:

Pony X Memebox Shine Easy Glam Season 2 Palette Season 1 size comparison
Left: Memebox X Pony Palette #1 - Right: Memebox X Pony Palette #2

There are eight shadows in each palette. The pans in Memebox X Pony #1 are 1.8g each, while the pans in Memebox X Pony #2 vary in size (but contain 9.8g of product overall). Memebox X Pony #1 is also slightly less expensive—it retails for US $18, while Memebox X Pony #2 retails for US $20. Therefore, palette #2 is significantly more expensive per gram ($1.25 per gram versus $2.04 per gram for #1 and #2 respectively). I don't think either of these palettes are outrageously priced, but I wanted to point out the size difference.

Glass?! I'm assuming that's a mistranslation, but of what? It didn't gouge my eyes out, so it's probably OK.

Pony X Memebox Shine Easy Glam Season 2 Palette case

The palette is encased in a slim black case with a good-sized mirror and dual-ended applicator. The applicator isn't amazing, but the brush end is softer/more usable than some other included brushes I've encountered in my makeup-wearing days, so that's nice I guess. I'm still going to stick with my other brushes though.

There's a plastic overlay that lists all of the colors. It's easy to detach and toss, but personally I like to keep them in to keep the mirror from getting gross.

List of shades:
  1. Shine Peach: A soft, light, sparkly peach. This shade was a bit soft and powdery (to the point where it was already crumbling a little when I opened the box), but it's still usable.
  2. Shine Dew: A shimmery/sparkly white. Looks more subtle on that in does in the pan.
  3. Glam Violet: PURPLE!!! Looks more sparkly in the pan that it does on my skin, curiously.
  4. Shine Rose: Shimmery, rosy pink. Love this color!
  5. Glam Mocha: Who needs regular mocha when you can have GLAM mocha? This is another one of my favorites.
  6. Glam Choco: Glam Mocha's cooler older sister.
  7. Shine Beige: A light, shimmery beige color. Slightly more pigmented than the other two light shades, in my opinion.
  8. Glam Bronze: Gorgeous shimmery bronze. Love it!

Overall impressions:

I like the Pony X Memebox Shine Easy Glam Season 2 Palette, though I think it's kind of a mixed bag. Shine Peach and Shine Dew are very pretty but rather crumbly, so a little hard to work with. I was also disappointed that Glam Violet wasn't a bit more shimmery, though it's still a lovely color on its own, I suppose. I just got this palette yesterday so I haven't had a chance to experiment with every type of base and application method yet, but I think these shadows are absolutely going to need basic primer at the very least to look their best and not travel all over your face, so that's something to keep in mind.

With all that said, I think I'd still recommend the Pony X Memebox Shine Easy Glam Season 2 Palette. The nicer colors are really gorgeous, and I don't think $20 is an unreasonable price for this palette (especially considering that it's likely you'll be able to get it cheaper thanks to Memebox coupons and/or value sets).

One last note—I haven't taken swatch photos of the first Memebox X Pony palette yet, but I wanted to point out the similarity between a couple of the shades. Update: You can now see my review and swatches of the first palette here.

Pony X Memebox Shine Easy Glam Season 2 Palette vs Season 1 palette color shade comparison

Shine Rose Gold in Memebox X Pony #1 is sort of similar to Shine Peach in Memebox X Pony Palette #2, and Shine Gold in Memebox X Pony #2 is similar to Glam Bronze in Memebox X Pony Palette #2. I don't think either of them are identical (both shades in Palette #2 are a bit lighter, in my opinion), but I figured it was worth mentioning in case someone out there reading is trying to avoid ending up with lots of duplicate shades.

  1. I agree that some colors seem disappointing and a primer is a must. #3 and #5 look the best to me.

  2. Thanks for the review, I was on the fence about whether or not I wanted to purchase this but I probably won't now. It's still a pretty decent deal at $20, but I think I'd probably only use the neutral shades and for that it would make more sense to buy the first palette.

I really like this palette. The purple does look more sparkly in the pan than in the swatch. Thanks for the review!

  8. First beauty blog post I've had a chance to read in what feels like forever! Very nice swatches. A bit glittery overall for me, but Shine Dew and Glam Violet are quite pretty.

  9. Hi! If you don't like glitter this probably isn't the palette for you, haha. Not sure if you've checked out the first Memebox X Pony palette, but that one is a mixture of shimmery shadows and mattes. Probably more versatile. No purple though!

  10. Glass?! Haha, I had a good laugh over that! The shadows look so lovely.

  11. I would be shocked to see glass in the ingredients too! lol From looking at the pan, you do expect Glam Violet to have more shimmer. I really like this palette, though. These are my favorite eyeshadow colors.

  13. Haha yup! Don't want glass in my eyes. I'm thinking it wasn't really glass though. :P

  14. I like these colors a lot too. I did end up picking up the other Memebox X Pony palette as well (which is more basic neutrals), but I have to say my eye really went to the purple and shimmery peach and pink colors. :)

  15. Great swatches! This looks like a solid palette. I haven't tried any Memebox brand products yet, but if I keep seeing good things, I just may have to. #kbeautybloghop

  16. Thanks! Overall, I've been pleasantly surprised with all the Memebox brand products I've tried... I was kind of skeptical when they started releasing them, but everything I've tried (eyeshadow palettes, lip crayon, lip tint, masks) has been decent so far. Worth trying!

  17. Have you tried using a smudger to apply the eyeshadow?? I dipped my smudger tool into the eyeshadow and it picked up enough color to not make a mess all over my face. Also swiping your eyeshadow brush a couple of times on a damp cloth or makeup wipe and then dipping into the product helps to pick up enough product. I bought 1&2 in a bundle and have been experienting with application of the eyeshadows. I found a nude base primer did not do much to bring out any vibrancy.

  18. By a smudger tool, do you mean a sponge tip? That's actually what I used for the swatches. I have been experimenting with different applications too since I published this post, and applying wet does seem to help a bit with the more crumbly shades - the problem is that there's still a good amount of glitter fallout at the end of the day with the lightest ones (Shine Peach/Shine Dew). Next time I use this palette I'm going to try them over a sticky fixative (e.g. Darling Girl Glitter Glue) to see if that helps!

  19. I see what you mean by the fall out. Perhaps that base would work better. The smudger tool is one I received in a coastal scents brush set. It's like a rounded nub sponge tool but the sponge is a bit harder and it was labeled as a smudger. Lol when I used it it picked up enough product and helped to apply the eyeshadow better. I did not experience a noticeable amount of fall out, but I had used a julep eye primer so maybe that helped to keep from fall out. Not sure if it does.

  20. Yeah a little nubby sponge tip is the sort of thing I was thinking of! I've never tried the Julep primer so I'm not sure what it's like, but if it's on the sticky side I'm sure it would help prevent fallout. Thankfully I'm not getting much fallout from the darker shades, just little specks of glitter traveling down my face as the day goes on, heh.

  21. I see what you mean. Hopefully there's a base that could hold the product better. I'm still looking for one. And the sponge tip on the tool I have is a different shape. It's like the shape of a pencil eraser with a a rounded edge instead of the tear drop shape sponge that comes in the palette. I'm not sure if the shape makes a difference but it's a bit of a harder sponge. I had never seen a tool like that so I was wondering if this was like some secret tool that picks up eyeshadow better. Lol

I used mineral shadow from elf as a base today when using the pony palette and found that it made the colors a bit more vibrant it was a nuetral beige shade.

  22. I bet you can really create some versatile looks with this. I'm on the fence but would love to try it.

  23. It is pretty versatile! One of the nice things is that all of the shades are pretty work-friendly, so even though they're a bit sparkly they're not too crazy for everyday wear.
