This may surprise you, but I'm pretty conservative when it comes to buying holiday beauty sets. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I'm not looking and drooling over a lot of them, but usually I manage to walk away with just a few little bits and bobs. There was one holiday set I knew I had to grab as soon as it came out though: Bite Beauty's Best Bite Rewind set. I'm a huge fan of their Luminous Crème lipstick formula, so I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to try out their lip crayons!
The Best Bite Rewind set ($25) contains deluxe minis of Bite's Matte Crème Lip Crayons in four shades: Café, Torte, Coulis and Aubergine. It's exclusive to Sephora.
Each crayon is 0.031oz, which is a bit more than half the size of the full-size Matte Crème Lip Crayons (priced at $24 apiece). If we're going by volume alone, this set is worth purchasing if you're interested in at least two of the shades. It's also worth mentioning that Aubergine seems to the only shade from this set that's currently part of the permanent lip crayon collection.

The crayons are housed in a sturdy tin embossed with the Bite logo and a mirror built into the lid. Pictured with a dime for scale:
Yep, definitely bigger than a dime! The crayons inside the tin are cushioned by wrap featuring the Bite logo. Again and again and again.
My one and only complaint about the Bite Rewind set is that it's very difficult to tell which crayon is which with a casual glance—there's no color coding, only stickers on the bottoms that say the shade names in impossibly small letters. Which means you really need to uncap them to tell which one is which. A minor nuisance, but a nuisance nonetheless.
Once the crayons are uncapped, it's easy to tell what's what though:

Of course I'm an idiot and mixed up the order while swatching— from left to right the shades swatched above are:
- Torte: A slightly brown-toned rosy pink. I was expecting this to have a very strong brown undertone from how it swatched on my hand, but it actually ended up looking very pink on my lips.
- Café: A light peachy nude, again with brown undertones. Much like Torte, this one didn't register as super brown on me... maybe because my lips are naturally very pink?
- Coulis: Raspberry red. This one is very vibrant and pigmented, but not as intense as some of Bite's other reds (like Pomegranate).
- Aubergine: Bite describes this as "eggplant", on me I think it looks more like a berry purple.
All four of the crayons are very pigmented. Café looks very subtle, but it's actually quite a bit warmer and brighter than my natural lip color. As mentioned above, I was surprised at how pink-pink Café and Torte ended up looking on me because I expected them to be brown, brown, brown. YMMV depending on your lip color and undertones.
One of the things I really love about Bite's Luminous Crème Lipstick is how non-drying it is. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from the Matte Crème Lip Crayons, but was pleased to discover that they're more on the demi-matte site—they do have a bit of luster to them, and aren't so dry that they make your lips feel like they're going to crack off. That said they aren't 100% transfer-proof, but aren't too bad in that department and do seem to last a bit longer than the Luminous Crème Lipsticks.
Another thing I noticed about the lip crayons is that they smell different to the lipsticks—they have a sweet, almost orangey scent. Delightful.
Overall I'm very pleased with the Bite Beauty Best Bite Rewind set, and recommend it both in terms of value and formulation. As I said above, if you think you'll like at least two of the shades it's worth it dollar-per-dollar, and you may be surprised by the others. Personally I didn't think Café would look good on me because it seemed so brown in the official photos, but it turned out to be fine.
You can purchase the Bite Beauty Best Bite Rewind at Sephora. It seems to be out of stock on the website at the time of publishing this—not sure if/when they'll restock, but I used the store locator and it seems to be available in store at many of the Sephoras in my area, so hopefully it will be for you too.
What do you think of the Best Bite Rewind set? Which of these shades would you try on first? Let me know in the comments!
