I completely forgot to say this yesterday, but happy Hanukkah to all of you who celebrate it! My sister's kids took great delight in wishing anyone and everyone a "Happy Thanksgivikkah" at Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, so it's quite silly of me to forget.
Anyway, now that Thanksgiving is over it's time to get serious about Christmas gift shopping. I recently got to try STEAMCREAM moisturizer and thought I'd share my thoughts, as STEAMCREAM tins would likely make an excellent gift or stocking stuffer for the skincare junkie in your life.
In case you've never heard of it before, STEAMCREAM is a skincare company that originates from the UK. They've recently launched a US website, which basically just sells one product - multi-purpose skin cream! STEAMCREAM is called as such because the ingredients in the cream are bound together by a steam-infused process. Fancy! Their cream comes packaged in a variety of really awesome and colorful tins - you can check out the full range in their shop or design gallery, but the one pictured above is called "Shu" in case anyone is curious. :)
STEAMCREAM is vegan-friendly and boasts an impressive array of natural ingredients:
The dominant scent of this product (to my nose) is lavender. It actually smells a bit like Lush's "Angels On Bare Skin" cleanser - not identical, but similar. In any case, the scent is pleasant without being overpowering. Soothing, even. I put some on my boyfriend and he loved the way it smelled - I'm actually a bit worried that he may steal it from me, haha. Your mileage may vary with the men in your life depending on how they feel about lavender.
STEAMCREAM's texture is pretty unique - it looks thick and creamy in the jar, but it's actually quite light and silky. The cream absorbs easily and doesn't feel sticky. I can imagine this working for a variety of skin types... on my combo-leaning-dry skin it was moisturizing enough for daytime use by itself. At night I'd probably use a sleeping pack or essence or something in addition to this.
The packaging has its pros and cons. I absolutely LOVE the look of the tins, and I love that there's such a huge variety of designs available - you could buy this product for years and get a different one every single time! The 75ml size is convenient because it's small enough for air travel, and the lid screws on so it's unlikely to pop off in transit. At the same time, I worry about using moisturizers in pots and jars because I wonder whether or not my fingers are clean enough. Lately I've been decanting my jarred creams into smaller containers though so it's not a big deal.
I love the design of Shu in particular because it has a retro feel - it sort of looks like it could be a long-lost cousin to my Besame lipstick, actually:
Besides Shu I'm particularly fond of Koku, Anika and Light From Space. I also like Pierrot, though I realize energetic clowns are not for everyone. :P They have a few holiday tins as well if you're looking for something a bit more seasonal.
Bottom line: STEAMCREAM makes a great moisturizer that could potentially suit a wide range of people, and at $20 shipped for 75ml the price is reasonable. I think this would make an excellent gift or stocking stuffer, because even if it doesn't suit the recipient's facial skin it can be used as a hand or body cream.
Where to buy: You can get STEAMCREAM from the official STEAMCREAM website. Prices on the website are inclusive of postage costs, but keep in mind that the products do ship from the UK so make sure to order far enough in advance to allow for delivery time. It usually takes things from the UK about five to ten days to reach me here in New York, just as a rough guideline.
Have you ever tried STEAMCREAM? Which of their many tins would you choose for yourself?
Disclosure: I received a complimentary sample of this product for review purposes. I did not receive any other form of compensation and my opinions are 100% honest. For more information, check out my full disclosure policy.
I never heard of this cream before , but it seems so interesting and it has a lot of good ingredients !!!
ReplyDeleteI am literally in love with all those tin boxes , it's hard to choose...my favorite in the shop is nocturne & noir , but I saw the design page gallery and my favorite are the Japan inspired like whispering blossom ,chiyoneko and suruga ;) .
I am pretty sure I will buy a steamcream in the near future :P !!!
I know, some of the past designs are awesome! If every single one of them was available I'd probably go for Chiyoneko.
DeleteOut of the tins on their design gallery page, my favorites are Light From Space and Nefertiti. I've heard of Steamcream, but I didn't think they were available in the US. Nice to know they are now!
ReplyDeleteOooh, I like Nefertiti too!
DeleteHow adorable is that! Love the packaging!
ReplyDeleteSomething for everyone :)
DeleteI went to the site and there are so many tins that I just love. The astrological sign one caught my eye--I'm such a nerd for that kind of stuff.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, I like the astrological ones too! Bath & Body Works had astrology-themed hand sanitizers a couple of years back and I totally bought some, lol.
DeleteI actually saw these on Asos.com and then saw your review, very tempting to pick one up! The tin designs are so awesome! Also, even though there are only a few hours left of Cyber Monday, I believe these are 20% or 30% off + free shipping at Asos.
ReplyDeleteOoh, if you can apply the ASOS discount code to skincare then that's a great deal! I actually placed an order on ASOS earlier today for some Christmas gifts and they were doing 30% off + free shipping like you said.
DeleteI'm waiting for mine in the mail! I love the tin designs and can't wait to use them once I finish the cream. PS. LOVE Besame lipstick.
ReplyDeleteOoh, which design are you getting?
DeleteIt's so nice... so sad for me.. they contacted me to review this product too, but then they found out I am not from the country they wanted XD
