Hello holiday shoppers! Have you spent all of your money yet? Well, if you've got $3 left to spend on yourself perhaps you might be interested in a review of e.l.f.'s new Studio Moisturizing Lipsticks, which are - you guessed it - only three bucks each.
Today I'll be reviewing/swatching these lipsticks in three shades: Coral Cutie, Party in the Buff, and Flirty & Fabulous.
The Studio Moisturizing Lipsticks are a relatively new addition to e.l.f.'s massive product range. Three bucks gets you 0.11oz/3.2g of lipstick and your choice of ten shades.
Product description from the website:
The velvety, satin texture glides on lips with vibrant color and luminous shine. Enriched with Shea and Vitamins A, C, & E to nourish and hydrate the lips. The rich, creamy formula seals in moisture for long-lasting wear and comfort.
Ingredients:
Paraffinum Liquidum (Mineral Oil), Petrolatum, Ceresin, Ethylexyl Palmitate, Hydrogenated Polycedene, Microcrystalline Wax (Cera Microcrystallina), Polybuten, Paraffin, Synthetic Beeswax, Polyethylene, Copernicia Cerifera (Caranuba) Wax, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Fragrance (Parfum), Butryospermum Parkil (Shea) Butter, Retinyl Palmitate (VA), Tocopheryl Acetate (VE), Ascorbyl Palmitate (VC), Propylparaben.
May Contain: Mica, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491; CI 77492, 77499), Red 40 Lake (CI 16035), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850), Red 27 Lake (CI 45410), Red 6 Lake (CI 15850), Yellow 6 Lake (CI 19140), Tin Oxide (CI 77861).
My lips are extra-prone to dryness around this time of year, so naturally I'm interested in lip products with hydrating qualities. The shades from this collection also seem very fun and bright - right up my alley. Now, with that said, I feel I should mention that the photos on e.l.f.'s website don't always seem to match up with the products color-wise... the three lipsticks I chose this time weren't too far off the mark though.
The Moisturizing Lipsticks come packaged in a square-shaped, metal tube (much like the Studio Lip exfoliator and Mineral lipsticks) with a standard pointy tip:
Left to right: Coral Cutie, Party in the Buff, Flirty & Fabulous |
Top to bottom: Coral Cutie, Party in the Buff, Flirty & Fabulous |
Despite being made of metal this packaging does have sort of a "cheap" feel, though given the price tag I don't think that's so strange.
In case you can't tell from the photos above, Coral Cute is a vibrant coral color, Party in the Buff is a peachy nude, and Flirty & Fabulous is a hot pink shade. Swatches on a human arm (taken in indirect natural light):
Left to right: Flirty & Fabulous, Party in the Buff, Coral Cutie |
Now I'm going to show you how these look on my face. I'm sure I've said this before, but I feel INSANELY AWKWARD taking photos of myself, plus I always manage to pull weird faces while doing it. Rather than deny you the pleasure of laughing at me, I thought I'd include some of those this time. No Photoshop other than cropping, just 100% stupid awesomeness. Also, do forgive my hair, as the dry heat from the radiator was giving it a static-y life of its own today.
Coral Cutie:
Party in the Buff:
Flirty & Fabulous:
That last trio looks like a bunch of rejects from someone's glamor shot portfolio - cringe. Anyway, these lipsticks do have a moist/slippery feel and a bit of a glossy finish. They're also surprisingly pigmented, though to get the full color payoff you'll have to do do two or three swipes.
I found Coral Cutie and Flirty & Fabulous smooth to apply easy to work with, but Party in the Buff went on sort of patchy. If you have dry spots on your lips it WILL cling to them. I didn't find any of them prone to feathering though, and that's always a good thing.
As for longevity, I didn't find any of them to be especially long-lasting (maybe a couple of hours before needing a touch-up?) but that usually seems to be the case with non-matte lipsticks for me. All of them are non-drying, which is what I was looking for - thumbs up.
Would I recommend these? If you're on a budget or just want to expand your collection of colors on the cheap, I say yes. There are better drugstore lipsticks, but not for this price (except Wet n Wild Megalast, though those tend to be more matte). At $3 per tube (or less if you catch them on sale) you don't have much to lose by trying a couple of them.
Bottom line: e.l.f. Studio Moisturizing Lipstick in Coral Cutie and Flirty & Fabulous are vibrantly colored and oh-so-smooth with a slightly glossy finish. Party in the Buff is a bit patchier and more difficult to work with, though if you have very smooth lips you may have better luck with it. At $3, I'd say they're worth it.
Where to buy: I'm not sure if these have come to drugstores yet or not, but you can find them online at the e.l.f. website.
What do you think of e.l.f. Studio Moisturizing Lipsticks? Which of these colors looks best on me?

Lol love the selfies!! These shades are so pretty, can't wait to try them myself!
ReplyDeleteThese look amazing!! I was planning on making a trip to Target after work today and I'll have to check these out while there. I know what you mean about feeling awkward while taking pictures of yourself. I have very few pictures of myself on my blog for that reason :P. You're very pretty and the pics turned out great!
ReplyDeleteLet us know if you spot them in Target! They're pretty new so I haven't looked for them out in the wild yet. I'm not sure my pics turned out "great" but thanks nonetheless. :)
ReplyDeleteHeh thanks! Which shades do you think you'll try?
ReplyDeleteI hope you love it! It is a very fun, vibrant shade. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't know, these are still plenty of makeup shades that look bad with my eye color and skin tone. :) I've actually wondered what I would look like with brown eyes... perhaps I'll try color contacts someday.
ReplyDeleteIt looks pretty! I like the last one and it's so cheap!

ReplyDeleteAll of them actually look fabulous on you. Luckily, for $3 a pop, you don't have to choose!

Ahh, Party In the Buff looks nice! I have never been a big fan of nude lips because I don't like the look of my lips matching my face, but that one looks good on you!! I may have to try it since it's more peachy. Great review!
ReplyDeleteThank you! And agreed, it is very nice for the price!
ReplyDeleteHaha thanks!
ReplyDeleteThank you! And I actually got these for $1.50 each because ELF often has 50% off sales... with those sorts of prices one could buy up the whole range! Not that I need 10 new lipsticks. :P
ReplyDeleteI love the color but I did find that one a bit more difficult to apply... if your lips are well-exfoliated it might work well for you though!
ReplyDeleteI agree, Brittnee!
ReplyDeleteWell, I ordered a whole ton of stuff. I got a 50% off their studio line coupon and wanted to spend enough to get free shipping so I think I got like 30 products. I got a few brushes, some other lip products, their sealing gel stuff I can't even remember it all.... lol I'm pretty excited though!
ReplyDeleteWow! gorgeous colors!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Do you think you'll be trying any of them?
ReplyDeleteI usually do the same. I've never tried the sealing gel but I've sort of had my eye on it... please let us know if it's any good!
ReplyDeleteprobably love to try out the coral one <3
ReplyDeleteThank you blogsearch.google.com! It brought me right to your lovely blog post as I was searching up these guys since ELF is doing another 50% sale. Great post and I LOVE your selfies! You're totally adorable. Thanks for giving us great 411
ReplyDeleteWell thanks and glad to be of help! I'd definitely recommend snapping a few of these up during the 50% off sale because that's what I did last time! :)
ReplyDeleteI just made my first ELF order just the other day, and I ordered at least one of these. I can't wait to try out the products and now I'm even more excited to get it. Thanks for a great review!

What else did you get? I'm a fan of ELF. They can be hit or miss but the hits are a great deal.
ReplyDeleteThese colors look pretty. I have never tried elf lipsticks before. Thanks for the honest review!
ReplyDeleteI think these are a lot better than some of the cheaper ELF lipsticks! They're $3 apiece, but since they're constantly having sales you can get them for 50% off if you're patient...
