Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid Touch Foundation Review & Swatches

It's almost fall, y'all! Weird. I actually just bought a bunch of summer clearance clothing in preparation for winter, but that's a weird topic that should probably wait until later. Um, anyway, who wants to hear about a new (ish) and awesome foundation? The product du jour is Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid Touch Foundation. Some of you may remember this popping up in my Walgreens summer beauty post, but I wanted to give it a more detailed review.

Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid Touch Foundation 10 Porcelain Ivory 15 Ivory

I own this foundation in two shades: Porcelain Ivory (10) and Ivory (15). These are the lightest options in the range and there are 10 additional, darker shades. Not a bad selection.

Product description:
Breakthrough liquid foundation texture fuses with skin. A finish so impeccable, yet undetectable. Broad Spectrum SPF 20. (Retail price approximately $10.99 for 20ml/0.67fl oz)

Ingredients:
Dimethicone, Cyclohexasiloxane, Isododecane, Alcohol Denat., Vinyl Dimethicone/Methicone, Silsesquioxane Crosspolymer, Phenyl Trimethicone, Acrylates/Polytrimethylsiloxymethacrylate Copolymer, PEG 10 Dimethicone, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Water, Disodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Propylene Carbonate, Aluminum Hydroxide, May Contain:, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides (Contains Oxtinoxate 3% as sunscreen)

Both the formula and the packaging of this foundation are rather unique. Instead of a standard glass bottle with a hole or squeezy tube packaging, it comes with this weird dropper thingie:

Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid Touch Foundation dropper applicator

Are you supposed to pick up the foundation with the dropper and gently let it drip onto your skin? I'm not sure, because I usually just use this thing to wipe it directly onto my face. Totally unsanitary, I know, but practical because the formulation is very liquidy and difficult to apply from the fingers to the face without making a mess. Here's what it looks like unblended on my arm:

"Fluid" touch indeed. Just a quick note on these two shades: Ivory has a slightly more pinkish undertone than Porcelain Ivory to my eye. It's also ever-so-slightly darker than Porcelain Ivory, but still really freaking pale.

Here they are partially blended out:

I think Ivory is better match for me ... if only it were slightly lighter. But hey! I can mix them together! Anyway, the finish of these is matte and powdery, but it doesn't really cling to the dry spots on my face that much. What really surprised me is how light they feel on the skin: This may be the lightest, most comfortable foundation I've ever worn. But unlike other light-feeling foundations, it provides medium coverage and doesn't completely melt off my face in a couple of hours. Amazing.

Overall impressions:
I like this foundation a lot. I don't necessarily want a matte look every day, but for when I do, this looks a lot more natural than tamping a bunch of finishing powder on my face. I also love how it feels on my skin ... it just feels like I'm wearing a layer of powder or something, not a heavy mask of greasy makeup. With that said, I think this would be best suited to oily or combo skin types. I haven't had trouble with it on the dry spots of my face, but I'm not sure how it would fare against maximum 100% dry skin-ness. The only thing I don't like about this foundation is that it has a sort of rubbing alcohol-esque smell in the bottle, though that fades pretty quickly once you've blended it onto your face.

Application-wise, I think it's best to apply this with the fingers. (You don't necessarily have to be gross like me and tap the dropper on your face.) I'm certain this would get lost in a brush ... not sure about sponges? What say you, people of the internet? Has anyone tried applying this with a sponge?

I'm not entirely in love with the dropper. It just seems ... awkward. Probably less awkward that just having a regular glass bottle with a hole though?

Where to buy:
I think this is a new addition to Maybelline's permanent collection, so you should be able to find it in most drugstores now (or soon). If not, Amazon, and Walgreens.com carry it online.

What do you think of Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid Touch Foundation? Do you think fluid/liquid foundations are going to be the next huge, inescapable thing?

  1. This sounds like a great foundation to me! I was wondering if it would hold up on oily skin, so this might be something that I'll try. This sounds like a similar texture to the Garnier bb cream for oily skin, which I happen to really like. Glad you did this review!

  3. Let me know how it works out for you! My skin is combo so I hope my oily skin theory is correct.

  4. I did the Liebster Award a while ago, but thank you! :)

  5. I'm interested to try this dropper! Seems like it's fast becoming a trend, 'cause I've seen the new YSL foundation has one too (or something similar). I think I'd prefer it to pouring foundation on the back of my hand!

  6. I tried a Korean BB cream that came in a bottle with a dropper too, though that was more like a tiny pipette? Guess it's becoming a "thing" in any case!

  7. I love matte foundations so I might try this out. though I'm not a fan of the dropper either.

  8. The dropper doesn't make the product worse, it's just ... weird. But the foundation itself is nice so worth a try!

  9. I like the idea of this really fluid foundation, but the amount of alcohol kind of scares me (I'm quite particular about ingredients). I should probably get over that because I think I'd really like it. Re-reading your review, I'm thinking I may try it...

  10. I often experience stinging when I use products with alcohol, but it's possible there are other ingredients my skin doesn't like. I'm guessing if I didn't use this everyday it wouldn't be a problem.

  11. I wish it were easier to get samples of drugstore makeup. This isn't ridiculously expensive, but it would be a bummer to get it and have the stinging feeling. :(

  12. I think everyone just swipes the applicator straight up on their face :p it takes wayyy to long otherwise

  13. Haha probably. There's so little in the bottle anyway that it probably doesn't have a chance to get *too* funky ....
