Meet Revitarest, the skincare ... pillow?!

I don't know how many of you reading use Pinterest, but I've been wanting to start a new board for a while. A board for all those things you didn't know you needed or wanted until you saw them because there's no way you could have even conceived of them on your own. If anyone knows of a way to summarize that feeling in a few words, let me know. But in the meantime, let me introduce you to a product that would surely get pinned to that board: The Revitarest Skin Care Pillow.

Revitarest Butterfly Plushie Skincare Pillow

Yes, a pillow for skincare. That's plush and blue and shaped like a butterfly. Curious? I certainly was.

Revitarest is a pillow meant specifically for side sleepers. When I first saw it, I filed it away in the "Seriously, WTF" part of my brain. But the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. You tend to put on your heaviest skin creams at night, right? And if you're a side sleeper (like me) some of those creams always end up getting rubbed into the pillow. Same thing with sleeping packs. So if you have a pillow that kind of props your head up from your neck that would prevent the rubbing, yes? I think so.

Here some other possible benefits from use suggested by the company:
  • Keeping your valuable beauty care face products on your face through the night instead of being absorbed by your pillow
  • Comfortable and versatile. You will use it while you sleep, but it's also great on the couch, in your favorite chair, or anywhere you want a little support
  • Enhance your skincare benefits
  • Create a more hygienic environment
  • Help prevent facial wrinkles by keeping your face smooth through pressure-free support
  • Helps promote clearer skin... less acne
  • More relaxed jaw... less clenching and drooling
  • Comfort for CPAC users
  • Preserve eyelash extensions
  • Great for travel

I'm not sure about some of these things due to lack of experience or prolonged use (CPAC, eyelash extensions, wrinkle prevention etc.) but if I position the pillow correctly it does suspend my face in such a way that skincare products don't rub off as easily, and surprisingly, it also seems to prevent jaw clenching. I'm a TERRIBLE jaw clencher and tooth grinder, guys. It's amazing I have anything left to clench.

As for construction: Revitarest is made in the USA and can be machine washed and dried. There are two types of (removable) covers available—Butterfly Plushie (pictured above) and Young Face Pillow Case (which you can see here). The cover is very easy to remove.

The actual pillow is made from COOLMAX™ fabric (which has moisture-wicking abilities) and Everlon™ filling (which is hypoallergenic and machine washable). Sounds mighty futuristic, but the bottom line is that the pillow is soft, comfortable, and easy to care for. Probably easier to deal with than your regular bed pillows, actually.

Revitarest included a little diagram explaining how to best position the pillow:

By "appropriate pillow" I assume they mean a normal old pillow that's at a comfortable height for your head and neck. Here's what it looks like propped up on an "appropriate" pillow with a human face:

I'll admit it: I wasn't actually sleeping. Because it would be really weird if I was able to take selfies in my sleep. But you can see from the photo roughly where your face is supposed to go. It looks a little awkward, but it's actually VERY comfortable! I felt like my neck was well-supported.

Overall impressions:
Revitarest sounds like a crazy idea, but it's actually a pretty cool thing to have if you like slathering on ultra-greasy face creams at night and/or need a bit of extra neck support. It's smaller than a standard bed pillow so I think it would make an excellent travel pillow too. Do I feel like I can't live without Revitarest? I'm not so sure. But if you're looking for a gift idea for a hard-to-shop-for skincare lover, this might be a very interesting choice. And if it continues to prevent me from clenching my jaw in my sleep long-term then I'll be shouting its praises from the rooftops for all time.

Where to buy:
You can purchase Revitarest pillows on their official website or on Amazon.com. The Butterfly Plushie version sells for $34.99 and the Young Face Pillow Case version sells for $39.99.

What do you think of Revitarest? How would you feel if someone gave you one as a gift?

  1. Wow, this is so fascinating! It sounds like something I should try since I'm also a side sleeper and I tend to clench my jaw in my sleep as well. Sometimes I even get acne from putting my face against the pillow case. Is this comfortable to sleep on though? Do you feel like there's enough support for the head?

  2. I put it on top of another, regular pillow (like you see in the picture) and it's definitely comfortable enough like that. I think it's actually more comfortable because it sort of "cradles" the head. The plushie pillowcase is soft and nice, but if you prefer a regular cotton case you could always just slip one over it! It's probably better to do that and change them often anyway if you're acne-prone.

  3. Ohh that makes sense! Thanks for sharing your input!

  4. I may have to get this if it really keeps you from clenching your jaw! I've been having issues with that lately. This sounds really interesting.

  5. Hi Karen! The Young Face Pillow Case is a cover for Revitarest that is combined with a "traditional" pillow case. It allows you to pair Revitarest with an appropriate pillow (for correct head/neck alignment), then Revitarest is stabilized (won't fall out of position) while allowing for subtle adjustments. http://www.revitarest.com/#!product/prd1/673725351/revitarest%2525e2%252584%2525a2-with-young-face-pillow-case%2525e2%252584%2525a2

  6. My husband wears a CPAP and I can totally see him benefitting from this style of pillow. How brilliant!

  7. I am definitely a clencher so I'm curious if you continue to notice a difference!

  8. I have never seen or heard of a pillow like this. It sounds pretty cool. I am all over the place at night tossing and turning so I'm not sure if this would work for me.

  9. Haha yeah, I'm not so sure it would work then. It's pretty good about staying positioned once you're lying down on it, but no guarantees if you're tossing and turning all night long.

  10. I definitely would not have thought of this! Cool concept. I also like that it's made in the US :) And that it looks like a small, friendly blue creature.

  11. It does! It actually sort of reminds me of a starfish that's lost a leg...

  12. Awww, poor limping starfish! But starfish can regrow their limbs, right? Maybe you'll wake up one morning and get a surprise....

Interesting. I'm a side sleeper, and I clench my jaw too. I don't think I could stand the fuzzy cover, so I'd have to go for the other one. I'm afraid I'd roll face-first off of it, though, because I tend to sleep right on the side on my face, leaning more toward my front.

  14. You can kind of position the "arms" of the pillow so the head rolling might not be an issue. The fuzzy cover didn't bug me, but if you're a drooler I'd go for the other one because plush + drool = crusty ewwwww.

  15. Hi Tanya! Please look at the Young Face Pillow Case. It's a Revitarest cover integrated with a traditional pillow case. It stabilizes Revitarest all through the night! I change positions all night long, so I use the YFPC in bed and I use the Plush Cover for watching tv on the couch! -- Now I can watch tv with both eyes open!! www.revitarest.com
