Weekly Poll | Meet me in Marsala

Happy Wednesday, everybody!

This week's poll question will be brief and topical. I'm sure most of you have heard by now that the Pantone Color of the Year for 2015 is Marsala—if you've somehow managed to escape hearing about this, you can read all about it here. My question:

What do you think of Marsala? Like it? Love it? Hate it? Like looking at it but would never wear it? Going to name your baby Marsala?

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I'm not sure if I like it. I'm not at all surprised that a wine-ish shade was chosen, but Marsala is so... brown. Maybe they wanted something totally different than last year's pinkish-purplish shade (Radiant Orchid).

What do you think? All Marsala all the way or no Marsala for you?

  1. I don't really understand the whole Pantone color of the year thing, anyway. It's Maroon. Stop with the ridiculous names!! Lol.

  2. I...don't really like it. There's not much more to say. I just don't really like it. Which is such a let down because I loved Radiant Orchid.

  3. Haha. It is kind of arbitrary, but it's harmless, so whatever. People just wouldn't go gaga over maroon, I guess.

  4. Haha! Glad to hear I'm not the only one. I really liked Radiant Orchid too - especially in terms of makeup, because I think it worked with a wide variety of skin tones. I can pull off some berry/wine tones, but those with a strong brown undertone look... odd.

  5. I think marsala is pretty in some pictures that I've seen but it looks different on different people. It looks really pretty on Dani from Coffee Break with Dani but she said it looked legit chocolate brown on her mom which I am not a fan of super brown shades. I think radiant orchid was a more fun shade for the spring (which is what makeup lines are launching for now).

  6. Marsala isn't a shade that's suitable for everyone, that's for sure. My feelings are sort of neutral. I loved Radiant Orchid because it's fun and everyone can experiment with it. Marsala doesn't have that same youthful appeal.

  7. Yeah, I think you're right about the timing re: spring and spring colors. I'm sure the brown-ness of Marsala comes out more depending on your skin tone. Brown and reddish browns usually make me look kind of blah, so I won't be rushing out to get a thousand Marsala sweaters!

  8. That's a good way to put it. I feel like I would enjoy Marsala as a sofa color, but not on my body, lol.

  9. I'm kind of on the fence about Marsala. It's kind of an odd color that seems "neutralish" but not. When it was first announced I though to myself "ewww ugly." That being said, I did buy the Sephora + Pantone blush palette with the Marsala shade in it... I don't think I would ever wear a Marsala-colored piece of clothing though. I don't really do brown or brownish shades.

  10. "Neutralish but not" is a good way to describe it. There are still 11 months of the Year-O-Marsala left to go, so maybe I'll warm up to it as a lip or blush color. Probably not going to happen in the clothing department though.
