Indie Friday: Notoriously Morbid's "In Camelot" collection

Bought It

Happy Friday everybody!

I'm going to make this short and sweet: I've got an indie eyeshadow collection to show you. It's a small one (only three shades), but they're all super-pretty. You like pretty things, right? Then you should keep reading.

Today I'll be playing swatchy-swatchy with Notoriously Morbid's "In Camelot" collection. If you're not familiar with Notoriously Morbid, here's the deal: They're an indie company based out of West Virginia, and they're awesome. This is the second collection of theirs I've reviewed on Hello Pretty Bird - you can check out "A Dark Christmas Dream" here.

Since we're only dealing with three colors I'm going to break it down shade-by-shade this time. Also, from now on I'm going to try to do my Indie Friday swatches over at least a couple of different bases, because different bases make different shadows look... different.

Kilgarrah

Shop description: The wise one....The Great Dragon. A deep rich brown with gold and green sparkles and a green duochrome. (Vegan, eye/face/nail safe, not lip safe)

Over the following bases (from left to right): NYX black eye pencil, NYX Milk pencil, bare skin,
NYX HD eyeshadow base primer, Darling Girl Glitter Glue

I think the shop description on this one is pretty accurate, although the green duchrome doesn't come out that much over bare skin. But over Glitter Glue... like, whoa. This is such a pretty shade, earthy but also sparkly. Brown generally isn't the first thing I reach for in my makeup drawer, but brown mixed with shiny green and gold? Yes please.

Morgana:

Shop description: Strong, independent,bold... a color fitting of its name. A beautiful purple that is very deceiving, it goes on blue with a purple duochrome. It's the perfect blurple! (Vegan, eye/face/nail safe, not lip safe)

Over the following bases (from left to right): NYX black eye pencil, NYX Milk pencil, bare skin,
NYX HD eyeshadow base primer, Darling Girl Glitter Glue

You guys... BLURPLE.This shade is more shimmery than outright sparkly. It's probably a bit too bold for everyday wear (well, for most people anyway) but if you're a lover of purple and/or blue shadows then this is a great one to try. This one seems to perform just as well over regular primer as it does over Glitter Glue, so that's a plus.

Young Merlin:

Shop description: Sent to a land far away, Merlin must hide his powers from his friends but at the same time use them to keep them safe. What a complex life he leads... A brown that has almost every aspect of magic, I mean, color it can have. It is a dark brown with rainbow sparkles and a blue sheen once applied. (Vegan, lip safe)

Over the following bases (from left to right): NYX black eye pencil, NYX Milk pencil, bare skin,
NYX HD eyeshadow base primer, Darling Girl Glitter Glue

This one looks reddish brown in the jar, but more purple once applied. I think that's the "blue sheen" mentioned in the description. Logically speaking the blue-ness should come out more over sticky bases that enhance the glitter, which I think is evident in the swatch above. It looks the most brown over bare skin and regular primer.

Overall impressions:

I purchased this collection mainly because I was enamored with the theme, but I really like all three of the shades. I think Kilgarrah and Young Merlin could be incorporated into an everyday eye look. Morgana is a little crazier, but what blurple isn't? It's still a gorgeous color though, and one that will come in handy when I feel like being a bit more dramatic. (And sorry, I won't be posting an eye look this time because I have an infection in one of my eyes right now. Yeah, really. Yay.)

Another thing I love about Notoriously Morbid is the texture of their eyeshadows - very soft, very easy to blend. Also, I think the amount of product you get for the price is rather generous - sample baggies cost $1.25, mini jars (approximately 1g) cost $2.75, and full-size (packed 5g jar) costs $5.50. Here are some pics for size comparison:

  4. Shh, I won't tell. With the 40% off code the damage probably wasn't *too* bad, right? Which shades did you get?

  5. They're a relatively small independent brand, so it's not so strange that you haven't heard of them before! They're great though, I highly recommend them if you ever want to dabble in indie eyeshadows or unusual colors. Their customer service is good too.

  6. I LOVE the theme they've got going here. Fantasy + makeup = you've sold me. The blurple shade stuck out to me most (it's hard to miss!) but I'd be afraid it would just be tooo much on my absurdly pale skin. Still, I'm going to keep them in mind the next time I go beauty shopping on Etsy. Thanks!

  8. What a cool brand name! I like the blue one and they all look very pigmented! Although I like the colors, I'm not sure if there's even one tone that would suit my freaking white skin with huge dark circles (≧∇≦)
Also, I saw that you're having a group for asian cosmetic fans but unfortunately I don't have g+ anyway, looking forward reading about some products here :)

  9. The swatches of the blue are soooo beautiful! I think I would wear it, but not on days when I am feeling anti-social because it seems like it might be a conversation starter!

  10. On everyday basis I would go for Kilgarrah and Young Merlin, yet I find the Morgana one enchanting <3 Amazing, how they are magically changing undertones depending on the base! ^^ Have a nice day :))

  11. I got a full size of Neno because I got a sample of that and NEEDED it, and I got Tempest too. The damage really wasn't that bad since there were only the two that I had to get. :) Our little secret until I review them lol!

  12. I got a mini of Tempest last time I ordered and it is SO PRETTY! Looking up Neno now... too many pretty colors to choose from...

  13. These shades are stunning! I would definitely wear Kilgarrah or Young Merlin any day, then try to find an excuse to wear Morgana. I love learning about indie brands - thanks so much for sharing!

  14. Glad you like them! It's hard to decide but I think Kilgarrah is my favorite of the three. I've been trying to do posts about indie cosmetics most Fridays so I'll have more fun stuff like this to share in the future. :)
