Hello hello! Is everybody out there having a pleasant Wednesday? Personally mine got off to a groggy start, but that's nothing a few dozen pots of coffee can't fix.
This week's question is for the literary types out there, or at least for the people who sometimes read books, which I'm guessing is a fair number of you:
If you had start re-reading any book you've already read RIGHT NOW, which one would you choose?
I'm not sure what my answer to this question would be, which is probably why I'm asking it - suggest good books for me to read! Ones that are so good you'd be willing to read them twice! Could be fiction, non-fiction, mostly comprised of pictures of squirrels, whatever. Help me enrich my mind. :)
The Second Vampire Academy book called Frostbite. The First Movie just came out in February. I read this series years ago so I forget what happened in that book.
ReplyDeleteProbably The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien. I've been meaning to read it again anyhow, even though I've already reread it a few times before. I'm staring at it on my bookshelf right now, actually. It's one of my favorite books. Mainly because it's about the Vietnam War, but also because it doesn't glorify war. It's very gritty. I like to read it and sort of analyze it. I'm a heavy reader when it comes to war books, and I sort of "analyze" most of them that I read. I don't really have a reason why. I guess I'm just trying to connect more with those around me and those who have died before me. Anyway, yeah, it's a really great book, and it's a collection of stories so it's a quick read. If you're not up for gore or hardcore emotions or...well, I won't spoil that scene, then I wouldn't say read this one though.
ReplyDeleteWell, you're talking to the person who would just start the Hunger Games trilogy over again when I didn't have anything else to read. I also reread Jane Austen for pleasure. And The Time Traveler's Wife. And The Fault in Our Stars.
ReplyDeleteRebecca by Daphne du Maurier. Everytime I read it, I'm shocked by the twists and turns in the story!
ReplyDeleteCharles Bukowski's "Women". I'm feeling pretty bawdy today ;)
ReplyDeleteIm with BlushandBarbells - Daphne du Maurier Rebecca was what popped into mind :) Also I loved reading Harry Potter :) x
ReplyDeleteA poll after my own heart! :o) The Fortress of Solitude by Jonathan Lethem. Or Swamplandia! by Karen Russell. Or The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon. And I second Chelsea W's pick, too -- The Things They Carried, in all its brilliant simplicity, was a huge influence on me both as reader and as writer when I first discovered it years ago. I could read these a hundred times each and they'd never get old.
ReplyDeleteYou are going to laugh but I would reread the whole Little House on the Prairie Series. Something about them always seemed to make me feel good. I have read them I don't know how many times and I don't even really like to read books.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I'm so guilty of not reading much these days, but these are the books I've read at least twice already:
ReplyDeleteJust Kids by Patti Smith
The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
And then these are the two books I definitely want to re-read at some point because I loved them so much, too:
Let The Great World Spin by Colum McCann
The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz
Salamander by Thomas Wharton. I already read it 3.2 times in the last 3 years. It is amazing and each time I feel so good when I read it :)
ReplyDeleteI read that years ago. I think I used to be more into war books but eventually they started to make me really sad, go figure... I may give it a re-read sometime though.
ReplyDeleteNever read it but sounds really interesting! If it's good enough for you to read 3.2 times then it's probably good enough for me. :)
ReplyDeleteI really liked "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao" too. Never read Let The Great World Spin, maybe I'll check that one out...
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't laugh! Nothing wrong with reading something that makes you feel good. :) I've re-read a couple of books I first read as a kid a few times, and some of them still make me laugh.
ReplyDeleteI never read Swamplandia! but it sounds very entertaining!
ReplyDeleteGlad to see all the Rebecca love. :) This will probably sound crazy, but I've actually never read any of the Harry Potter books...
ReplyDeleteExcellent suggestion! Love a twisty story. :)
ReplyDeleteI read that a while back - when I was in grad school maybe? I'm still not sure if I like Bukowski...
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of them yet (or watched the TV series) but I want to! I'm usually more into sci-fi than fantasy, but it seems like I would like them...
ReplyDeleteHey, that's allowed! I still haven't read any of the Hunger Games books myself, but clearly you're not the only one who loves them.
ReplyDeleteI hate it when I forget what happens in a book or movie... makes me feel like my brain is broken or something, haha.
ReplyDeleteI'm giving myself two ha ha - I love A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers, like, a lot. But I also could re-read Atlas Shrugged a couple times a year without getting tired of it. This is a great poll I am totally going to go write everyone's answers down for my next book shopping spree!
ReplyDeleteI love Michael Chabon - you are right that was a great book!
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm loving the diversity of answers here! I've definitely added a few new things to my reading list...
ReplyDeleteThis is a tough one..... I'm going to say Kill Whitey by Ken Harvill.
