Delicate Hardware: A Jewelry Story (via ShopLately)

I'm a total sucker for themes. Themed parties, theme outings, themed anything. It upsets me slightly when the contents of my monthly beauty boxes don't match up with the theme listed on the info card. Yeah, I'm crazy.

Lately I've been obsessed with silver jewelry that looks like hardware. That might sound silly, but think about it: Many hardware bits are silver anyway, right? And shoving a screw in your ear isn't the safest thing in the world. Hardware jewelry is a bit edgy, but still way more subtle than dangling a paper clip chain from your nose. I like it.

Anyway, ShopLately has a ton of hardware-inspired accessories, so I maaaaaaay have picked up a few things—want to see what I got?

Before I share the nuts and bolts of my latest haul, here's the scoop on ShopLately:

  • ShopLately is an online marketplace. There are a number of different sellers running shops on there—sort of like eBay or Etsy, but fashion-focused and easier to browse. You'll find a mixture of mass-produced and handmade items in the marketplace. All of the picks I'll be featuring today came Veritas Accessories.
  • Different sellers have different shipping policies - check the individual shop pages for more info. All ShopLately orders can only be shipped within the USA at this time.
  • Specific items and sizes can sell out quickly, so if you see something you like grap it ASAP!
  • You can get $10 credit towards your first order of $15+ by visiting here and signing up through Facebook.

Missing Piece Earrings - Silver ($9.50)

These earrings are what kicked off my whole hardware-inspired jewelry craze. On first glance they just look like normal silver studs, but surprise! They're little screw heads. I love them because they're quirky but also really wearable and unobtrusive.

Common Edge Earrings - White

When you were a kid, did you ever stick a wear a regular old safety pins like earrings? My friends and I used to do that and thought we looked super-cool. In retrospect that was probably sort of stupid, since wearing a safety pin isn't exactly the safest thing in a world, but thankfully there are now lovely purpose-made earrings such as these to give you that classic "rebellious teen" look without the risk of your earlobes getting ripped in half.

The exact style is no longer available in the ShopLately marketplace, but you can find other safety pin-inspired baubles here.

Nailed It Ring - Silver (Similar style available here, $8.50)

Who else watched You Who Came From the Star? I had kind of mixed feelings about that show in the end, but I couldn't help but notice that the abundance of rings shaped like bent nails worn by the main cast. The style of this is a bit different to the ones on the show, but I still think it's out of this world! (Ha ha ha.)

Spectacular Collision ($12) and Heartbeat ($9.50) Necklaces - Silver

Since I was shopping Veritas' massive selection anyway, I couldn't help but pick up a couple of necklaces. They're not exactly hardware-esque but they go with my other selections. I'm especially fond of the star necklace because it's asymmetrical and a bit surprising:

Peekaboo! You're my shining star.

What do you think of my latest jewelry picks? Do you ever shop for accessories around a theme?

Those screw earrings are really cute. I just love studs because my ears cannot handle bulky earrings for long periods of time. I don't think that I ever shop for jewelry based on a specific theme...except for maybe florals, but that's not intentional and more just because I'm drawn to anything flower-y.

  2. Big earrings are definitely a "special occasions" thing for me. The weight actually gives me a headache after a while. Studs and very dainty dangly earrings are definitely my favorites.

  3. That star necklace can be a great makeshift weapon ;) The screw head earrings are very cute but I'd be adjusting them all day to get them to look like x's and not like crosses.

  4. I didn't even think of that. Oh god, now I have to check them obsessively djhbfshdbfjshdfsjhdfsdf

  5. Ha! I'd be totally down with agnostic earrings, though.

  6. The screws kind of scare me lol but the star necklace is cute!

  7. Uh oh, why do they scare you? They're definitely not real screws! :)

  10. Oh I LOVE the nail ring! And I definitely put safety pins in my ears when I was going through my misguided goth/punk phase...

  11. Haha yup. There was even a girl at our school who looped paper clips through her ears, but I was too chicken for that.
