L'Oréal Paris Visible Lift Blur Foundation (and That One Time I Had A Tan)

It's still summer, despite my wishes that it would suddenly become fall. And stay fall. Autumn weather is nice. But since it's still summer, I remain gung-ho about trying out lightweight foundations that contain SPF. I like my sunblock mind you, but anything extra that help prevent my face from getting sun-fried is good, in my book. Today I'll be talking about my experience with the new L'Oréal Paris Visible Lift Blur Foundation, which has SPF 18 (in the form of Octinoxate, if anyone's curious.)

L'Oréal Paris Visible Lift Blur Foundation

Product description:
L'Oréal Paris Visible Lift Blur Foundation is L'Oréal Paris’ first makeup with exclusive blur technology formulated to instantly blur lines and wrinkles. Signs of aging disappear as Visible Lift Blur Foundation hides dark spots, large pores and smooths uneven texture so you get a flawless finish you can see and feel. L'Oréal Paris Visible Lift Blur Foundation contains SPF 18 and is available in 12 shades. (SRP $14.99 for 1.3fl oz/40ml.)

I got lines, man. Not deep wrinkles yet, but lines galore. I've also been having some acne issues lately (yay!) so I was curious to see how well this foundation would cover it.

L'Oréal Visible Lift Blur Foundation is housed in a pretty typical squeezy tube with a hole. I prefer this to "classic" glass foundation jars with no pump. I would rather spend my time applying the makeup than scraping it out of the jar, know what I'm saying?

And above you can see the foundation itself, in person! This is shade 202 - Natural Ivory. Based on a photo I saw online I thought this would be the best match for me, however it is a touch dark and warm. There is also a "Light Ivory" (201) and that's what I would choose if I were to purchase this again. This is still wearable though (photos of my face with the product on it can be found below).

Partially blended in:

Do you know what this shade reminds me of? The one time I had a tan. (Yes, only once.) I spent several months in New Zealand over their spring/summer, and despite applying sunblock religiously I still got a tan because the sun rays are so much more intense there. Then I visited Fiji and all the people I met there said "Why didn't you get a tan in New Zealand? Everybody gets a tan in New Zealand!" Wah wahhh. Look, there's proof:

My feet in Kaikoura, New Zealand: Ca. 2010

Epic sock tan. Excuse my hairy legs, I was staying in a backpacker hostel at the time and those don't usually have the kind of bathrooms you want to linger in. ANYWAY, what I'm trying to say is that Natural Ivory is my "I have a tan!" shade. Except I don't have a tan at the moment. But despite that, it doesn't look totally crazy.

General thoughts/observations:
  • I would describe this as a light coverage foundation. Both the consistency and finish are more akin to what I would consider a BB cream, actually. With that said, it didn't do a bad job of covering up my acne ... do you see the massive red spot in the middle of my right cheek in the photos above? Maybe if you look closely, but it's not glaringly obvious thanks to this foundation.
  • This has a very slippery, silicone-y feel. Personally I really like that, but if you have extremely oily skin you may have trouble with it.
  • I do feel like this "blurred" the fine lines around my eyes. I also like the finish ... sort of "radiant" but not ridiculously glitzy or shiny.
  • I had to touch this up after a few hours of wear. Yet another point in favor of the lightweight squeezy tube (easy to stick in a purse!) rather than a massive glass jar.

Anyway, I'd like to try "Light Ivory" at some point to see if it's a better match. Or maybe I should just get a tan. What do you think?

L'Oréal Visible Lift Blur Foundation started rolling out to drugstores and mass retailers last month, so you should be able to find it at a store near you. If not, it's also available online at Amazon, Ulta.com, and Walgreens.com. For more information, check out the product website or connect with L'Oréal Paris on social media:

What do you think of L'Oréal Visible Lift Blur Foundation? Am I the only one who never gets a tan?

  1. I think that color looks good on you! I def didn't notice any pimple either. I am lucky that I actually tan..but not as tan as I would like..and the tan fades very fast :(

  2. Thanks! I don't think it's a perfect match but it's definitely wearable. Normally when I go out in the sun with SPF I get a horrible sunburn, so I was really surprised that I was even able to get a tan, lol. Have you had any luck with fake tan products? Might help keep the "glow" longer.

  3. That really sucks. Having super fair skin seems challenging. I haven't really tried fake tan products since I hate the process of keeping it on your skin overnight and all this fun stuff. I did do a spray tan in HS which didn't look orange or anything...but haven't tried bottled stuff in the past few years. I may decide to though since my tan is almost gone lol

  4. Get a (fake) tan! No, just kidding. P.S. My favorite self-tanning product for the face is Clarins Liquid Bronze. Not cheap, but really good.

  5. Thanks for the suggestion, I will keep that in mind if I do ever decide to fake tan. Though in this case applying a fake tan so my foundation will match more closely would probably be inefficient.

  6. This looks great on you! It's got a natural glow that makes it seem like you've had a healthy dose of sunshine. :D
And you're not alone; I haven't been able to tan properly the past few years. I've been cheating, using a bottle of that Maui Babe Browning Lotion which surprisingly works quite well. But I'm still much fairer than I would like to be for the summer haha.

  7. Thanks! I try to stay away from the sun, but I'm glad I look "healthy" and not "weird", haha. :) I've never really tried to get a tan, honestly. Getting a few bad sunburns discouraged me.

  8. My husband and I went to a lake this weekend. We did get tan, but we're the only ones who can tell! I've been into lighter coverage foundations right now, so this one sounds promising. Have you tried the blushes from this line?

  9. I think unless you get BRONZE people tend not to notice! Nope, I haven't tried the blushes. Just the foundation. I am curious about them though!

  10. You are so purty :) And your tan is laughable. I'm pale too, but goodness!

  11. Aww, thanks. And listen, I take my sun protection seriously!!! That level of sock tan has never been seen before (or since) on this body.

  12. Yay NZ!! Kiwi's represent! Yea our sun is intense, I heard that in places where there is no ozone hole you don't need to wear sunscreen 24/7.

  14. Haha yup, that's true! Way less risk of getting crispy from the sun here in NY. I still put on a lot of sunblock though because who wants a sunburn?

  15. I feel pretty much the same! It looked better on than I expected it to though.

  16. I've never really tried a l'oreal foundation but I might have to know. This seems really nice aside from the need you had to reapply. Did you use a primer and set with powder?

  17. I think this may be my first time trying a L'Oreal foundation too, now that you say that! I've used their eye makeup before though. Anyway, in the photos above, I didn't use primer but did set with a light dusting of powder. Because the texture of this is sort of slippery I think you definitely need at least a little powder.
