Weekly Poll: Electronic Fashionista

Happy Wednesday, everybody! And if you're a student or a parent, happy back-to-school time! (Groan. Cheer?)

Speaking of back-to-school, I was browsing some back-to-school sales online and that got me thinking about online shopping. And thinking of online shopping got me wondering about online clothing shopping. (Sort of related to the original topic, right?) So here's my question:

Do you prefer shopping for clothing in a traditional retail store or online? Why?

I used to love poking around in clothing stores for hours and hours, especially places like TJ Maxx where there are often numerous clearance treasures to be discovered. Nowadays I find that I rarely have the patience, so I do end up buying a lot of things on the internet, even knowing that there may be fit issues and I'll have to return them (though luckily, that doesn't seem to happen too often). Online shopping could never replace a visit to a good thrift store though. So many special things waiting to be discovered there. I wish there were better thrift stores around here.

How about you? Do you enjoy shopping for pajamas in your pajamas or the more "traditional" way?

  1. I'm the same way - used to be a retail shopper, now I hate it and love shopping online!

  2. For clothes, I prefer in store because so many retailers' sizes differ. I'm an XS at old navy, a size 8 in jeans usually across the board, and a size L at other stores. For makeup, electronics, etc I like online!

  3. Yeah, I feel like you have to be devoted to really digging if you want to get the most out of thrifting! I've found some serious treasures that way but had to comb through a ton of crap to get to them.

  4. Yes, that is DEFINITELY frustrating. I always look at online retailers' size charts before ordering because they can vary so much, but even that's not 100% foolproof. Old Navy is also so inconsistent with their sizing too! Aside from being cut larger than most retailers, I find that it can even vary garment-by-garment.

  5. I have to go to a store and try it on before I buy clothing. I'm not an average size and sizes are so different between brands. I don't understand that at all. If I know a particular item will fit, then I'll order it online, but that doesn't happen very often.

  6. Yeah I definitely wouldn't count on being the same size in every brand! It's a bit crazy how much they can vary. I always look at the size chart when buying online because it's easier to measure myself with a tape measure than guess what "number" they think I am, lol.

  7. I like doing a bit of both actually. For the most part I'm kind of forced to do mostly online shopping (most of the things I would like are not available where I live) so I have to make due with what I can but I never pass up the chance to go into a store and buy something. However in terms of clothing I'd much rather prefer shopping online because then I know what's available and what's not and sizing is usually accurate for a lot of online stores (and if not you can always base your idea off the model I guess).

  8. Availability is another reason I shop online. I feel like local stores are often out of the things I want in my size, and certain garments (like bras) are just difficult to find unless you go to a specialty shop.

  9. I definitely prefer getting to try things on in person.

  10. I only buy clothes online. I only wear vintage style clothes, as it suits my body type and most vintage style clothes fit off the rack. The sizing is always odd on the rare occasion a store in my town carries something that's vintage inspired (big difference from vintage style, but I take what I can get), but I've never had problems with sizing from online stores. That's sort of the opposite of how it's supposed to go, isn't it? The only time I have problems with online shopping is for bras. I haven't found bras in my size in my town, so I just suck it up and head to the next town, which has a Bravissimo.

  11. Probably about 65/35 online to in person. Whilst I like to go to shops to see how things fit and will buy stuff in person if I can to save on delivery/return charges, often a lot of the shops near me don't necessarily have the thing I want in stock or if they do they don't have my size so I end up having to order things online. I also find online a bit easier because I'm not much of a browser when I shop for clothes - I tend to see something I like, buy it and get out. Make-up, on the other hand, is a whole different story...

  12. I don't know, maybe since you have to actually look at the size chart before ordering online there's less risk of buying the wrong size by accident? And oh man, I wish we had Bravissimo here. For whatever reason it's generally harder to find bras with a large cup size/small band size in the US than it is in the UK, and when you do find them they're often just black or nude. Bo-ring!

  13. Haha yeah, I still like to browse for makeup in person too. But also online. Do I have a problem? D:

  14. I prefer going shopping in person and trying things on but if there is a store online where I know my size and know it will fit..I may get it. I also take a chance with Stitch Fix but that is really more of a fun thing for me.

  15. I look at clothes online, but usually buy in person. Unless it is something I can't buy in store and it is something I know will fit. Like stretchy clothes.

  16. Stitch Fix definitely seems worth the gamble! Especially since you can return things that don't fit right.

  17. I don't know what this says about me, but maybe I had a reasonable level of success with online shopping because I like stretchy clothes. Leggings and tights, man. If it's comfortable enough to fall asleep in I probably like it.

  18. I hate training on clothes in the store so shopping online works for me!

  19. I'm like you, I don't have the patience to dig through racks for clothes anymore, but I also am afraid to order online a lot of times because returning stuff that doesn't fit seems like too much of a hassle to me. To compromise, I usually just go to Old Navy, grab some basic t shirts, and get out! Lol.

  20. If I was a standard size I'd buy online a lot more. As it is I need to try on to avoid disappointment and costly returns. this is a big pity as I do not live near shops!

  21. Yep, having try stuff on in the store is probably my #1 motivator for online shopping. I feel like whenever I do go to an actual mall I always end up in a changing stall next to a mom screaming at her kid or something. :(

    ReplyDelete
  22. Haha, that works! I've gone to my local Old Navy a few times, but it can get RIDICULOUSLY crowded there so I probably order from their website more often now that I kind of understand their weird sizing ...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Definitely understandable! Having to travel to shop is a hassle, but having to return stuff a majority of the time is probably an even bigger one.

  24. I enjoy browsing through clothes online, but when it comes to actually buying it, then I prefer shopping in-store. A lot of the times I find that the actually clothing looks different in person than in promo pictures, and it's fun to try things on sometimes~

  25. I used to love going into malls and trying on clothes for hours, but now I get frustrated when I can't find stuff in my size, which made me turn to shopping online. Another reason why I did a lot of online shopping back when I lived in Ohio was because the stores I liked were all over an hour from my house.

    ReplyDelete
  26. That is definitely true. I've ordered stuff off the internet and the colors or other details were totally off.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yeah not being able to find your size is super-frustrating! I always have that problem with bras (TMI?) But aside from that I wear kind of a common size, which means that when I go to Target or someplace like that everybody else has snatched up all the ones that would fit me before i get there, haha.

  28. Weird I used to be all for store shopping but more recently I seem to do most of my shopping online it's a little harder as you don't know how stuff will look/fit in person but with most shops offering free returns it makes online shopping even more appealing. I also find I get discounts that I wouldn't otherwise get so it's a win win for me :D xx

  29. I like store shopping because with online shopping, it is either a hit or miss. I bought a couple of clothes online before and end up returning them because it was the wrong size or it didn't look good on me. At least with store shopping, if they don't have the color I want, I can always try it on (in another color) and buy the right color online.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yeah, I think now that more online shops are offering free shipping for returns it definitely makes the process easier! And coupon codes. And cash-back deals. I still see a lot of coupon and voucher deals that can only be redeemed in a physical store though (e.g. spend $20, get a free ___ sorts of things).

  31. That's very true. I've definitely tried things on in a store to make sure they fit and then bought them online!
