Review: Tony Moly Appletox Honey Cream (plus bonus eBay info!)

Affiliate Links Bought It

So earlier today when I was rambling about jewelry shaped like apples and pickles I had no idea that there would be an apple-shaped surprise in my mailbox this afternoon... a jar of Tony Moly Appletox Honey Cream!

I've purchased this product before, but I've never done a review so I figured better late than never. I bought this particular jar from eBay seller cosmeticmarket2012, so I'll be doing a mini review of them as well.

Ready to unpack the box with me?

Okay. In case you don't know, Tony Moly is an inexpensive Korean brand of skincare and makeup. A lot of their stuff comes in super-cute packaging, and Appletox is no exception! Look:

TonyMoly Tony Moly Appletox Honey Cream red apple

Tony Moly currently makes two Appletox items: A peeling massage cream (sold in a green apple-shaped jar) and Appletox Honey Cream (sold in a red apple-shaped jar). Here's what Appletox Honey Cream is supposed to do according to Sasa.com:

TONY MOLY Red Appletox Honey Cream contains natural honey extract from apples, an active blend of bee honey and soluble collagen. It enhances skin elasticity, obviously increases moisture level, soothes skin problems and boosts metabolism. Suitable for all skin types, it is especially suitable for tired, dehydrated or sensitive skins.

What most product descriptions (and the packaging, for that matter) fail to mention is that this is actually an AHA moisturizer. This didn't come with an ingredients list at all, but some nice soul wrote it all up on COSDNA. Thanks, COSDNA user Kahime! Anyway, I feel it's important to mention that because AHAs can cause irritation if used in conjunction with some other products, or for some folks with sensitive skin. Oh yeah, and they can cause photosensitivity. So basically it's a good idea to know what you're putting on your face!

The cream has a thick, gel-like consistency. It feels sort of wet and sticky when first applied, but it actually soaks in quite quickly, leaving a dewy (but not greasy) finish. Have I mentioned yet that it smells like fresh-picked apples? Because it does and that's awesome.

One of the other reasons I love this cream is because it's sort of an all-purpose product. I have tried it as:
  • A facial moisturizer
  • A sleeping pack
  • An upper arm moisturizer (to deal with keratosis pilaris)
  • A foot and hand cream
  • A time machine (OK, maybe not)

I have combination skin and this works great for me. I obviously can't know how it would be on every type of skin, but I imagine it might be OK for oily skin (because of the gel-like formula) and for dry skin (because of the AHA).

As for the packaging, it's obviously adorable as hell. Convenience does take a backseat to novelty in this instance though. Here's a look inside the jar:

As you can see, there's a little plastic "shelf" above the actual cream with a spatula. It's nice that they've included a spatula, but this is not my ideal method of dispensing moisturizer, plus whenever you lift up that little plastic lid it tends to drip a bit down the sides (pet peeve of mine - I hate it when the outsides of containers get sticky!) I can get over all that since the cream itself is so nice, but this type of packaging makes it basically impossible to travel with. My workaround? Buy some sample sachets off TesterKorea and eBay. Problem solved.

Bottom line: Tony Moly Appletox Honey Cream is an excellent moisturizer that's potentially suitable for a wide variety of skin types (and applications). The packaging is a bit impractical, but the extreme adorableness sort of makes up for it.

And now for my thoughts on cosmeticmarket2012...

This is my second or third time purchasing from this seller, and so far my experiences have been very good. Their products seem authentic and the shipping speed was great this time... I ordered on September 7th and received it on September 17th. The cream was also nicely packed, in a small box with a layer of bubble wrap around it:

They also included a few samples of other products, which I always appreciate:

This time I got samples of Elisha Coy Vita Capsule Cleanser (haven't tried it), Tony Moly Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream (haven't tried it), and Etude House Precious Mineral BB (one of my favorites, though this is not my shade). All in all a successful purchase, I'd say.

Where to buy: You can obviously get Appletox Honey Cream from eBay seller cosmeticmarket2012, as pictured above. There are also numerous other eBay sellers offering it, just make sure to read their feedback carefully!

Have you tried Tony Moly Appletox Honey Cream? What do you think of the packaging?
