Looking for a new way to make your face smell delicious? Aren't we all. Natural beauty brand Pacifica recently launched a few new exclusive products at Ulta Beauty stores, including these scrumptious-smelling Essential Makeup Removing Wipes. Facial tastiness aside, I also expect my makeup removal wipes to actually remove makeup, so I had to put them to the test—keep reading to see my results!

Pacifica Beauty Essential Makeup Removing Wipes review

Product description:
"Pacifica Essential Makeup Removing Wipes contain 30 natural biodegradable towelettes infused with a bevy of natural ingredients like coconut milk, jojoba, calendula, chamomile and jasmine to gently cleanse and wipe away even the most stubborn makeup as well as excess oil, dirt and daily pollutants. Convenient, portable, and perfect for anytime, anywhere. Formulated without: animal ingredients (including carmine, beeswax and lanolin), animal testing. FD&C colors, mineral oil, parabens, phthalates, petroleum, propylene glycol, SLS, gluten, peanut oil and other ingredients you don't want on your skin."

Speaking of being free from animal ingredients: All of Pacifica's products are vegan-friendly. Kind of rare amongst mass market brands.

Ingredients:

aqua, aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf extract, coconut (cocos nucifera) milk, decyl glucoside (plant source), allantoin (plant source), simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, citric acid, coconut (cocos nucifera) water, phenoxyethanol, calendula officinalis (calendula) extract chamamilla recutita (matricaria) flower extract, parfum (all natural).

The first thing I noticed was how high up in the ingredients list coconut milk was—I would have been shocked if they didn't smell positively heavenly. (Good news: They do.)

Pricing/availability:

Pacifica Beauty Essential Makeup Removing Wipes are exclusive to Ulta and are priced at $7 for a 30 wipe pack.

Pacifica Beauty Essential Makeup Removing Wipes

Like most of Pacifica's other wipe offerings, these have a standard wet wipe texture. No crazy ripples or textured bits. I found them to be reasonably saturated... they're not super wet and drippy, but not too dry to really wipe grime off.

OK, now for the real question: How well do they remove makeup? I put them to the test against four purportedly waterproof makeup swatches on my arm (top) as well as four non-waterproof ones (bottom). Here are my results after various amounts of wiping:

As you can see, the Essential Makeup Removing Wipes had trouble removing some of the darker swatches. It was pretty good at getting off waterproof liquid liner, because it caused them to quickly flake off and ball up into the eraser dust-like shavings you see above. I rinsed the shavings off my arm with plain water and was left with clean skin where they had been, but you could also use another wipe in a pinch.

One thing these wipes do seem to be decent at is removing foundation and sunscreen. I still prefer oil cleansers for removing base makeup, but I can totally see myself using these whilst traveling as a preliminary cleanser before going in with foaming cleanser. You're going to need a dedicated eye makeup remover or something strong if you wear lots and lots of eye makeup though.

So, would I purchase these in the future? Possibly. They're not the heaviest-hitters in terms of makeup removal, but they smell ridiculously amazing. Imagine jasmine green tea steeped in coconut milk, mmmmmm. I would buy them to keep in my purse just for "freshening up" purposes on hot days. The scent is pretty strong though, so be wary if you have sensitive skin or a sensitive nose.

Bottom line:

Pacifica's Essential Makeup Removing Wipes aren't the best makeup removal wipes out there if you're big into waterproof makeup, but if your routine consists mainly of light, non-waterproof cosmetics, they should be fine. Their delectable scent and portability makes them a good option for folks who like to buy products that are 100% vegan and/or cruelty-free.

  1. Thanks for this honest review. I was really excited to read in as love the Pacifica for their perfumes. It’s a shame they don’t get waterproof makeup off as much as hoped. I may buy them to freshen up though as I bet they sell amazing. Have you tried there perfumes? I recommend these very much! Great post!! :-) xx

  2. It's good that they're biodegradable. I worry about the stuff I throw away and where it'll end up.

  3. Jasmine green tea steeped in coconut milk? Mmm, yes, please!
Too bad they're not great at removing makeup, but I agree that wipes are super convenient for travel, and next time I hit the road, I might consider packing these guys instead of the Neutrogena ones I used to use (they're kinda harsh on the eyes).

  4. Pacifica's perfumes smell great! I think that brand does two things exceptionally well: One, making pretty packaging, and two, creating delicious scents. Especially if you're a fan of coconut, mmmm.

  5. That is definitely a plus! If you're using a wipe or two every day, that would generate a lot of trash over time...

  6. Honestly, I would bring these on a trip with me just to wipe my hands and gross surfaces and stuff. I pack wet wipes all the time for that purpose, so why not have wet wipes that smell remarkably good?

  7. The smell sounds divine! I normally use a separate eye makeup remover and then remove everything with a wipe. I may actually give these a try.

  8. If you use a separate remover for your eye and lip makeup, they should be fine. They really do smell delicious!

  9. Imagine that much rubbing but on your eyes :( I don't think these would last very long for me!

  10. Yeah that would not be a fun time. They seem to remove most foundations in a reasonable amount of time unless they're particularly stubborn and waterproof, but I won't be using these wipes on my eyes anytime soon.
