Get to Know Me: Beauty Blogger Tag!

Hello again everybody!

I saw this tag on Beauty Junkie on a Budget and decided to have a go. I don't think I've done any tags on this blog before, and besides, what blogger doesn't like to talk about themselves a little bit? C'mon. Plus we all know that I work hard to put the "beauty" in beauty blogging:

And without further ado, here are the questions and my answers. You can breathe now.

1. Is your hair natural curly or straight?
It's strwavly. I dunno, I guess it's wavy. And it never goes where I want it to. Watch out, my hair is on the move!!!

2. Do you dye it yourself or go to a salon?
I haven't gone to a salon in years. And I actually haven't dyed it myself in roughly a year... I've done all sorts of crazy colors in the past though. Or done custom colors by mixing shades from the beauty supply store. I went through a platinum blonde/bleachfest phase from 2010-2012, and after it was thoroughly fried I decided to give it a break and let it grow out a bit. I'm planning on dyeing it again soon, probably a very dark cool brown (which I did before and looked nice) but I'm tempted to add some streaks of crazy color which will require bleaching and hair frying. Oh, these tough decisions. What say you, people of the internet?

3. Do you wear the same style everyday, or do you change it?
If we're talking hair, it's often in the style of its cut because my hair is not very cooperative when it comes to hair products and heat styling. I've sported different haircuts over the years, but I've done an angled bob with fringe a number of times because... I don't know why.

As for clothing, no, I don't wear the same style everyday. That would be boring for me!

4. Do you do your own mani/pedi or go to a salon?
I think the last time I had a mani/pedi in a salon was in 2000. I was in high school then. You do the math.

5. How often do you change your nail polish?
If I'm in a nail-paintin' mood, once or twice a week. I go through periods where I don't feel like doing them though.

6. Do you polish your toes in the winter or just in the summer?
I honestly cannot remember the last time I painted my toenails. Definitely not in 2013... did I do it in 2012? I can't remember. I always look at them and think "I should paint my toenails blue!" but then I never do it. I don't ever wear open-toed shoes outside the house, so there's not a real sense of urgency.

7. How long does it take for you to put on your makeup?
If we're talking really basic everyday makeup, maybe 15 minutes. If we're talking about something like the sexy Saturday look I posted about the other day... well... that takes YEARS to perfect.

8. What do you do first? Face or eyes?
Face. I know some people say you should do your eyes first because of fallout, but like... you can hold a tissue or something under your eyes. They even make weird plastic eye guard wand things.

9. Do you collect makeup or just buy what you need when you need it?
It depends on what you mean by "collect". I definitely buy extra stuff with the intention of using it later. But I'm the same way with everything... in my apartment you will find a wealth of spare black mascara, travel-sized toothpaste and canned tomatoes.

10. How often do you wear false eyelashes?
I'm not sure if I ever have? My eyelashes are pretty long. I've been thinking about trying it lately so I can do some crazy, unnatural looks but I don't know where to start. What say you, internet people? Suggest some cheap lashes that aren't horribly awkward to work with!

11. Do you do a full face of makeup everyday?
Nope.

12. Do you wear makeup when your home alone, or with family?
Sometimes, because I like to play around with eyeshadow or photograph myself with weird shit on my face all the time. I don't think anybody in my immediate family (or my boyfriend) care if I'm bare-faced in their presence, though I do wonder if my always well-made-up sister raises an eyebrow when I show up at her house bare-faced. I doubt it, but what's life without a bit of paranoia?

13. Will you leave the house without makeup?
Yeah, but I'm happier when I have it on.

14. How many high-end products do you have?
I don't know. Not a lot, because I'm not exactly a wealthy woman. I do have some stuff I got as gifts, and I used to get stuff sometimes when I worked as a brand ambassador at promotional events. Yeah, that's really something I used to do as a part-time job. That may not seem funny if you only know me from my blog, but my in-person pals were like "Uhhh, you? Really?" I can come off as a bit... dry. Acerbic even. Also, I'm kind of weird. Just who every brand wants to represent them!

15. Do you plan your OOTD every night or decide when you are getting dressed?
Hah, you guys think I wear clothes. Psh. Honestly, I work from home now so my OOTD usually consists of yoga pants and ill-fitting tank tops. If I know I'm going out I do put a little thought into it though.

16. How often do you change your handbag?
I try to change my burlap sack weekly because they do get holes after a while. Wait, what?

17. What time do you wake up and go to sleep?
I'm a night person. Sometimes I don't go to sleep until 7am and then I get up in the early afternoon. I find it easier to work at night when my boyfriend is asleep and my crazy neighbors are all passed out. So if you see a blog post of mine timestamped in the middle of the night it's probably accurate!

18. How often or when do you workout?
Does carrying a bomb shelter's worth of canned tomatoes home count?

19. Left handed or right handed?
Right-handed. Speaking of which, is there such a thing as a "Doing my makeup with the wrong hand" tag? Because that should exist.

20. How tall are you?
165cm / 5’5″

21. Do you speak any foreign language?
I studied Spanish and French in high school. I don't remember much, though I do know a lot of words for foods in Spanish  because I live in a largely Latino neighborhood and a lot of market signs and stuff are in Spanish. That, and I like to eat. I self-studied Korean for a bit, but most of what I retained from that is pretty useless. Oh, and I lived in Glasgow (Scotland) for a while, and while they technically speak English there I feel that understanding the Glaswegian "patter" merits a mention because it is quite strange indeed.

22. How many pets do you have?
None. Our building doesn't allow pets and I also have stupid allergies. I like to watch the feral cats that hang out in our neighbor's yard though. I even gave them names like any proper crazy lady would.

23. How often are you on blogger?
Lately I've been posting once or twice a day. I also do check other people's blogs out a lot. So... often?

24. Do you read comments posted on blogs?
On my own blog, yes. On someone else's blog I might if I'm interested to see how people will respond to the topic at hand, though if there's hundreds of them then I'm probably not going to be reading all of them.

25. Do you keep a list of products to try as you see other posts?
No, but this is intentional: I feel like it's easy to look at something on a blog and go "OOH I WANT THAT!" But a lot of the time when you buy something on an impulse you're like "Why the fuck did I get this?" later. I figure if something is interesting or useful enough for you to remember without writing it down, maybe it's actually worth buying.

26. How did you come up with your Blog name?
I wanted something to do with birds because my name has "Bird" in it. I tried about 5000000 domain names until I found one that wasn't registered, and thus HelloPrettyBird.com was born!

27. What kind of camera do you use for your photographs?
I use some shitty old Fujifilm point-and-shoot camera. And sometimes my Blackberry Z10, which takes surprisingly blurry pictures most of the time. I'm actually shopping for a better camera right now, but I kind of want DSLR and they're so stupidly expensive.

28. How often do you clean your house?
I'm pretty good about staying on top of things that produce bad smells, like the dishes or kitchen trash. But my home office is a disaster zone. I do live with another person (my boyfriend), so I try not to be too disgusting in the areas he also uses. As for the office... well.. I'll get to it, I swear.

29. What’s your favorite color?
I dunno. This is the sort of thing I never think about, but if you look in my closet about 1/3 of the clothing is purple. I dress like a cartoon character.

30. Do you swear?
Poop no.

31. What are you doing with the rest of your day?
Well... it's 5am and I'm stuck in my mom's condo in the middle of nowhere. So probably something really awesome, like taking pictures of her sleeping cats and telling them they're pretty.
